This concept is total nonsense. I have no brief at all for a dodgy Tory MP or any of his cohort but using the law to protect bookies is a totally amazing idea. That is what is happening here. The bookies need to take care of themselves not rely on their politiacl allies to help them out.. In previous times bookies used such markets as a loss leading publicity stunt. You were limited to maybe a tenner on the market because the bookie knew that someone will determine the result and might pass the info to others. That is a risk for the bookies to take: they do not have to offer the market. About 50 years ago an owner told me his horse was an absolutely certainty. It won on the bridle. Was I in possession of "inside information"? Case should be dropped immediately. Unfortunately for the accused the whole concept is beyond the lawmakers and the prosecution services.

I'd be very surprised if anything sticks. A half decent brief will use stuff like jimmytheone mentions above.
Brighterdays ahead and Lossiemouth's targets at Cheltenham, would be a good start.
The bookies should pay out and if they're that bothered, not offer bets on markets where the result can be known before an announcement.
Indeed the GC should stop them offering markets like this, as someone will always know before official announcements.

Craig Williams MP. He put a ton on the date of the next election market... I have no idea what price he got but lets just say I doubt it was a life-changing amount.
Is this really a police matter? Outside of a phone call or a quick visit from a panda car. 'Dont do this again, sonny', type of thing.
I can only think Williams has rubbed someone up the wrong way to get all this press coverage. Thats the world we live in I guess.
