Obviously not looking to his right.

Thought he might have mistaken the winning post for a half furlong marker but more likely been the starter steps that were on the inside rail that he's seen out the corner of his eye.

You can almost see the surprise in his face as he stops pushing while Marco Ghiani is still pushing his horse out as the line approaches.

A genuine mistake I feel, they do happen.

An enquiry was held, into Darragh Keenan's riding of VENUS SLIPPER, placed second, in the concluding stages of the race after he appeared to stop riding shortly before the finish line. Keenan explained that he had raced prominently and that at the time he eased up in his opinion, the winner whom raced from off the pace had headed him and was carrying considerably more momentum to beat him by an extending neck. As such he was of the view he had finished in the best possible placing. His explanation was noted, and he was reminded of his obligations to ride his mounts out fully to the end of the race.

lol, jolly batey ay stewards...

that's a fair enough outcome, all jockeys are obliged to ride to the finish every race, hardly see it.

Agree, a common sense verdict for once. A 28 day ban for that would be ridiculously harsh.

No interest in the race but having seen the replay he does start to slightly push again after the winner has gone by, thus imop his explanation is rubbish and trying to swerve the fact that he's mistook the line. I do agree he would've lost anyhow but his explanation is clearly just to avoid a ban.

I agree with your view MJK but I just don't think it was enough of a crime (given mitigation of maybe confusing items on other side of rails) to warrant a 28 day ban which I understand is a minimum sentence for the offence.
