Great story there that he nearly bought the winner’s sire as a 1-year-old but it failed the vet. He said he would have gelded it!

Should really name a prominent Festival race after him,
as a recognition for all he's done for NH racing.

They'll do it after he's gone, but I believe it would be nicer while he's still here.

They won't do it though

Met him at Newbury one Fri afternoon, was just stood on the grandstand viewing steps, he stands next to me against a rail.

Was watching one of his run, heavens kitchen or devils kitchen or something.

Had a few words, photo with him.

Gentleman, all this just before a race he had a runner in. Also just in the regular grandstand not members or anything.

Agree, should have a race after him.

I would hate to get his training bills every month.

Wonder what his total horse racing bills add upto before any winning prize money deducted.

Care for the elderly or lack of it is one of the biggest scandals of the century, hundreds and hundreds of old folk forced to sell their homes by the government just to line the pockets of these big corporations.

There is no doubt that a lot of trainers, big and small, have benefited from his patronage. In addition, when he is on course in Ireland he comes across as a man of the people strolling around and he has done wonderful work through his charitable foundation. However, from a punters viewpoint he is an absolute nightmare. Between Binocular's champion hurdle shenanigans, Noble Emperor in Limerick a number of years ago, Iroko in Cheltenham only this year and countless horses jig jogging around at the back of the field to get a very favourable handicap mark it is impossible for an ordinary punter to back the 'green and gold'with any confidence. I am backing horses for more than 50 years and one of my golden rules is not to back any of his horses.

"The real point here is that we have a scandal at the moment where, every year, 30-40,000 people are having to sell their houses to pay for care costs."

Jeremy Hunt, Secretary of State for Health, in an interview with the BBC, 10 February 2013

"I repeat no-one, again NO-ONE, can be forced to sell their home to pay for their care"

Paul Lewis, BBC Radio 4 presenter, on his blog, 16 July 2012

An Englishman's home is his castle, so the saying goes.

But, if our politicians and our media are to be believed, property owners are under threat, as councils "force" the elderly to sell their houses to pay for the care that they need in their old age.

Under the current system, anybody who needs to be cared for in a residential home and who has more than £23,250 in assets to their name is required to fund their own care. This means that many people end up selling their house in order to release a large sum of capital - a scenario that is often described as grossly unfair.

The Dilnot report into the future of social care funding produced a model that shows how people who need care risk seeing their assets depleted by up to 80%. (With a cap on care costs in place, an individual would find themselves less exposed financially.)

That was 12yrs ago, guessing things are a lot worse. Sad

And yes I know A_T nobody is FORCED to do anything but in these cases their are no options.
