Unsure why you are crabbing EID but I think he is ideal type , probably between gim and lulumba . Hoping tom laceys gibbs island can put in a good showing

East India Dock 10lb clear on all objective ratings. Strange things can happen as we see every day but he is the right favourite. My only bet of the day so far.

10 flat runs is very unusual for a 4yo hurdler these days but it adds to his credibility that he has that much racing experience. Hello Neighbour is the main danger.

He has course form , race hardened, uncomplicated , clear on form and ratings. So the likely winner, but Hendos think theirs is better. Should be a good race.
It will be hard to get EID out of the first 3 so a decent ew bet.

That view is what makes markets acey. Henderson's has just 2 runs over hurdles and none on the flat. 18 is a biggish field but not near the maximum of 24.

When did you go skint oneten? A good ew chance @ 11/8? Think you could be right with Hello Neighbour acey, whether inexperience is a negative or not there should be potential for big improvement if jumping continues to improve, gone ew.

Good call acey. The moral of the tale - if you’re serious about winning at Cheltenham don’t put STD on it. He’s worse than an infection and all over the place in a finish.

A useful handicapper on Flat (stays 1½m) for Ralph Beckett this summer. Changed hands for 200,000 gns in October and he brings a lot of potential to this sphere. No forlorn hope for top connections.

Great finish and why do any of us think we can outthink Mullins. 100/1 chance, never run over hurdles. I doubt if even his inner circle "knew" about that one. First and third by Golden Horn. My biggest shock was seeing my lay at 1.4 taken on East India Dock. He was the one found out by the pace and the hill.

Hard to believe he got beat after jumping the last a length up, not having been asked for everything yet. Just fell in a hole, when in previous races he was strongest at the finish.

I think it was fair ir sage. Last one to be asked for everything, staying looked his forte. He has stopped rather that the winner catching him as demonstrated by getting beat by the s2nd fav too. He didn't jump so well today, but I'd say he hasn't seen the race out for whatever reason.

isn't there an old saying you get a stayer beat taking him out of his comfort zone ? The bottom line is he's not a top notcher at 2m. More flights and further will suit him.

They all stay 4 miles at the right pace. There were no real form lines in the Triumph. All based on ratings on the clock or value of races won and half of them had never lost over hurdles.

Hendo meshed up on Lulamba. I think had Lulamba had one more run for experience and fitness - his jumping could have been better - he'd have won. As such, still ran very well.

No idea, before my time. It's all relative obviously. What price EID before the race to have jumped the last a length up having yet to be asked for maximum effort. Long odds on.
I don't personally think they have gone too quick and collapsed, otherwise both would have been beat by the Cromwell horse. The EID of the last two races would have won in my view, for whatever reason he has found little for pressure today. Which is in contrast to his usual style of racing.

"What price EID before the race to have jumped the last a length up having yet to be asked for maximum effort. Long odds on". I agree with that. But that's why he was staying on but not quick enough. The ground today likely a fair bit quicker than some of his previous races. He needs a good test at 2 miles or horses with better toe at the trip will beat him. A step up in trip is needed when in anything like top company.

He just hasn't found today. If he lacked boot at the trip he would not have got to the last still in hand when everything else was fully off it. Horses are not metronomic, but my initial point was about the ir which was more than understandable. There was no reason to think he wouldn't find for maximum pressure.
The Triumph does tend to suit staying types, generally.

You can always get beat by better horses. The trip is on the sharp side for him but still has the class at it to lead a decent field although the Triumph is not as strong as it used to be. I see absolutely nothing to suggest he hasn't run his race on today's ground / opposition so if you think something else is going on we disagree.

agree with the last post howard but I would add that the second and third chased the early leader and didn't quite get home with EID running out of petrol earlier than Lulamba. Lady Vega Allen ran very well getting the 7lb allowance and the others were always just out of their comfort zone to me.

The three at the sharp end, including the free running front runner have finished 2nd 3rd and 4th. The 5th raced up there. They didn't go too quick. The winner was of course a wild card.

Nothing can possibly be a cert in a race with hardly any form lines between the fancied ones never mind with others that have never jumped a hurdle before! Even when the same horses meet 4 or 5 times, the result can be different as the Gold Cup showed.

The shortest price I have bet on all week and well beaten. Still level on the day with a couple at smaller meetings. Two bets, two third places at Cheltenham today but win only.

Unlucky to lose that race. Blame the jockey. Needed to be more patient. The Irish conditionals having their first ride at the Festival manage to keep their heads but seasoned professionals like STD often lose theirs when it matters most.

I hope most can recover from the results of Cheltenham 2025. For some this will be a Cheltenham to remember eg Michael O'Sullivan, Bob Olinger, Marine Nightingale, the bookies bashing bets, etc. However, for me this is one to forget except Fact To File; the likes of Constitution Hill, Galopin Des Champs, Jonbon, Ballyburn, Lulamba and East India Docks have scuppered all my antepost bets.
I hope this year's Classic results will not mirror that of Cheltenham 2025. Otherwise, total capitulation and abstention is likely.

He was rated slightly higher on the flat than the fav slickster, take the hurdles out and the gulf in betting would not have been as it was, the fact he could jump might have also made a difference had punters known.

makes you wonder if flat trainers could be arsed 3 months before chelt, how many triumph winners could be out there, no doubt in 4 to 6 weeks time Mullins could have another dozen himself at home who could beat this winner

Mullins must be a very good delegator. He paused when asked how much schooling Poniros had had and he was vague or guessing. Fair enough when you have 300 horses and some have yet to run but his recollection of the best ones is very good. I guess he gets interviewed so many times that he can't always be bothered to give an accurate answer.

The owners must all be patient and willing to spend. Willie said that he likes to run plenty in the Triumph for experience and didn't expect any of them to win! A very expensive way to give horses experience!

Mr Bloom had Bunting last year. He was a talking-horse, and cost quite a lot of money too. This time his winner was under-the-radar and well camouflaged in Mr Mullins's battalion.

Nonsense I'm afraid. He was pulling away after the last hurdle, and inexplicably fell in a hole the last 75 yrds or so. One that definitely got away, it happens. They turned the CC into a 4f sprint, which he won comfortably.

James Doyle responsible for that performance. Horse ran a cracker. Unfortunately James isn't very bright. I'm sure the Gredleys will jock him off next time. It's what they're good at

Spot on again acey. You told us all. Hornby! lol. What kind of a ride was that from Crowley on Zanndabad. All the way from Ireland to trust a senior jockey who never at any time got the horse into the race.

awkward enough draw but in the CC, Harry gunned him to get a position, that ultimately won him the race. James decided to slot in where he landed, and got no luck.
