Up until this week I thought I had done pretty well, particularly with Inothewayurthinkin and Fact To File, but starting with Golden Ace the roundabouts have overtaken the swings.
James's Gate, Joyeux Machin, An Peann Dearg, Springwell Bay, Franciscan Rock, Transmission all out.
Transmission was expected, but the actual decision to put an amateur up against professionals when he could have run in the Kim Muir is very hard to fathom. Franciscan Rock has no chance in a Stayers, but might have been a class angle in the Pertemps. What was the point in winning a qualifier? The market had suggested that Springwell Bay was going Plate, and I thought great I have got the 1/6 puzzle correct, but no. Fortunately, I didn't have Jagwar as well.
Several are non runner no bet, but when logic is abandoned it is very frustrating.

Masaccio another one that could easily have run in the Novices Handicap heading for the Plate. The opposite to Springwell Bay. An Peann Dearg in the Plate even though his best form is over shorter, and the trainer had recently pointed to the Grand Annual being the target. Logic again out of the window. This is the kind of thing that kills ante-post betting, and there are some who condemn non runner no bet, notably Segal. They should know better. Without it ante-post would be close to dead except for the few who benefit from inside knowledge.
