Was planning to start this at Donny on the opening day of the Turf season but I’ll post a few up on the AW on the run up to the kick off. A maximum of 2 points per race will be staked and I’ll settle the bets at Bookmaker Prices (BOG where available) and BetfairSP
The 6.00 at Kempton looks the most competitive race on the card and you really couldn’t rule anything out. So, I’m taking a couple of those at double figure prices against the field.
Billy Mill (0.5pt @ 12/1, 6.00 Kempton)
Has been slowly running into form this Winter and is only 1lb above his last winning mark, more importantly though is he gets Saffie back in the saddle. She gets on really well with the Horse and in a race that could become tactical, I’ll take Saffie to make the right calls at the right time here. Trip & track are perfect and the selection doesn’t have much to find with the reopposing Follow Your Heart & Hieronymus from LTO but is available at 3 times the price of those two.
Tiger Crusade (0.5pt @ 12//1, 6.00 Kempton) He’s been in grand form this Winter and ran his best race thus far in what was a much better race than this one LTO. He’s been running his best races at 6F this Winter but he’s winner over CD and is worth chancing at the prices.

This might be of interest to fans of Ralph Beckett, and let's be honest, who isn't these days?
Beckett was a guest on Wednesday’s Nick Luck Daily Podcast and went through the full dozen on the 'Road to Epsom' at this early sage.
He said: “My first thought would be let’s hope a few of them show up and we have a chance when they do.
"It’s a great problem to have, nice horses, there’s a couple who’ve already done it at stakes level and plenty there who won their maidens and looked like they’d get better at three. We’ll hopefully keep them all healthy and sound, run them in the right trials and then whatever happens, happens.â€
The Beckett-trained Derby entries
Stanhope Gardens: "He’s very much in the mould of his dam who was not much more than a rabbit but got better at three. He's an athletic, strong colt. If you asked me at the beginning of June, I'm not sure I'd have thought he was a horse who would be touched off in a Group Three in October. I always felt in that sense he overachieved at two. He’ll find his level and let’s hope it’s this level. It would be especially poignant if he did given I bought him for Richard Morecombe who died last October."
Starzintheireyes: “He took a long time to get on top in the Zetland, I certainly don't think the Derby trip will be a problem. You wouldn’t look at him and think ‘he’s a big staying type’ but he's very much a strong colt and the trip will be well within his compass."
Matauri Bay: “He had a nightmare journey over to France before his final run. He took forever to get there; French customs threw a spanner in the works. As a result of that I remember coming out of the paddock and saying, ‘he’ll either win it or nearly finish last’ and it was sadly the latter. He’s a light-framed sort of horse, Epsom shouldn't hold any fears for him, and I certainly hope he’s good enough."
Sir Dinadan: "The Pontefract race was a good fit for him, but I don’t think anyone thought he’d win like that. He’s a big, strong boy who handles everything that's thrown at him. I've always been a huge fan of the horse as an individual and he’s another I hope is good enough.â€
Seacruiser: “He’s very much changed shape through the winter, he’s grown and got longer, gone through various stages physically and the next couple of months will tell us where we are. He’s a horse I’ve always liked and one who when we took him away for a gallop before his debut, he showed up well. So, it wasn’t a surprise he turned out the way he has."
Aurel: “He surprised us on debut, I don’t think any of us thought he’d do that. He’s done well over the winter and us perhaps the most forward of them all at this stage. We’ll see how that develops, if he’s not good enough for a Derby, he’ll certainly have a German Deby on his radar as well. We’ll see how it pans out, but he has the pedigree for it so there’s every hope.â€
Pinhole & Calla Lagoon: “I thought Calla Lagoon did very well to win his maiden, he had to run through a tight gap and then perhaps wasn’t quite ready for the Silver Tankard but it did him plenty of good in terms of his progression and education. He's a very straightforward horse and obviously the last horse the owner ran in the Derby who finished second in the Silver Tankard was Westover and it would be nice if he’s as good as him!

Pride Of Arras: “He’d shown up well at home and New Bay is a stallion who’s been very good to us and obviously the mare goes back to Brian Boru and all that family. It’s a really good page, he too, a bit like Centigrade, went into a but of a dip after Sandown and we decided to leave him alone. He’s a big lad who should progress through the year as well. I’m looking forward to him and it would be lovely to have a really nice horse for the owners. The first yearling order I ever had was for Mrs Aykroyd."
I Am I Said: “He was sort of unexpected when winning on debut at Newmarket, I thought Too Don Juan had a better chance than him going in but Richard Kingscote has ridden a lot of big-price winners for us over the last 20 yeas nearly and in his normal fashion left the horse alone to find his feet and away he went.
"He's a handy sort of horse; he's not a big horse by any stretch and sort of reminds me very much of Max Vega. I hope he's as good as him, who we had to retire after the St Simon Stakes last autumn. He’s very much in the mould of that horse and I hope he has as long a career as him too."
Push The Limit: “A very late foal and very immature mentally last year. He took a long time to work out what was required, Hector Crouch gave him the prefect introduction around Kempton. We'll see what he can do on the grass, but you'd expect with that page, physique and profile that he will develop into a nice horse this year. How nice, we’ll find out."
It's probably a bit too soon to be bullish about anything in the Derby but it's interesting to hear how his Derby entrants have done over the Winter. Out of all these I was most impressed by Centigrade but you can certainly pick holes in the form of his 2 races. I did like the way he galloped on strongly for his win at Newbury though and the Stoute horse he was touched off by on debut (Jonquil) must be better than he showed at Doncaster. I'm just going to put a line through that run. Anyone know who is training that one now?

Mr Baloo (1pt @ 4/1, 7.30 Kempton)
He's ran well on 4 of his 5 starts this AW season and you can forgive his other run (broke very slowly from the stalls) I think he's taken his form to a new level on last 2 starts both over the Mile trip. Both those races looked very competitive on paper beforehand with plenty of the runners going into them in good form. I don't think the 2lb rise for his win LTO will stop him with this trip and track spot on for him. With doubts about plenty of the other runners in here, I make him the clear favourite yet he's only 3rd choice in the market. The 5s that was knocking about has gone but the 4/1 is still a fair price.

Mr Baloo had every chance but was beaten by a well handicapped winner in Dingle....I'd given up on him some time ago and Tadreeb who's improved for the switch to the Millman stable. Mr Baloo has since gone in at Newcastle by the minimum distance which confirmed to me he was on a decent mark and remains in the form of his life.
Blue Prince did me a good turn at Goodwood last Flat season and he's now back on the same mark and with Probert back on board he look to go well. But he looks very short in the betting in what looks a pretty competitive little race.
Dutch Kingdom (0.5pt @18/1, 7.00 Southwell) was in decent form the last time we saw him with a cosy win at Chelmsford and then bettering that with a close second behind Amazonian Dream here back in November. Both those races were at 6F but he's equally as effective at this 7f trip. If he can take up a position behind the front running Legal Reform, he might be able to have first crack at him in a race where plenty will be running on late in the day including my other selection. He's been pretty weak in the betting thus far which could be down to the absence of being 129 days away form the track? But seeing as he doesn't really act on turf, I'd be surprised if he isn't spot on for this race
Ormolulu (0.5pt @16/1, 7.00 Southwell) It looked as if she'd had enough for this AW season when refusing to race here and a 7th of 10 at Newcastle in February but then she came out and beat the well handicapped Rohaan and pushed an inform mare all the way LTO. The negatives are she can be slow away & she's never really excelled at this 7f trip (admittedly from very few starts) But she appears to still be in good form and looks on a very good mark. I think its worth trying her one last time over the trip in a race that could pan out nicely for her if they go quick enough up front. (I'd like to see to Legal Reform & Persuasion taking each other on early doors)

Cheers GB! Yeah, loved the way he battled back. And after blowing start as per usual Ormolulu ran on very strongly. It 's shame she keeps messing up at the start because she can definitely win in this grade.....even at 7F 
I selected Ormolulu on the thread a couple of times last year after I thought a run at Newbury wanted marking up, but it took a change of stable before she finally came good again.
It will be interesting to see how she does once she's switched back to the Turf.

Marshman (1pt @ 9/2, 2.25 Doncaster) He's been in good form this AW season after losing his way on the Turf last season. The wind op and being gelded has no doubt helped with the turn around in his fortunes. The 5F trip was on the short side for him LTO and he was beaten by a real 5F AW specialist in Clarendon House (3 wins from 4 starts at 5F on the AW) this 6F is much more his cup of tea. He was a close second in this race last season and I can see him going one better here and shrugging off the small penalty he has to carry for an earlier Group race success.
Got 2 bullets to fire at the ultra competitive Lincoln and I just got most of my stake on one of my selections at 85/90 on here. If he were to slot in this would pretty much guarantee a winning flat season!

Apiarist (0.5pt @ 33/1 Doncaster 3.35) He’s been one of the horses of the AW season for me with form figs of 1211 (I’ve put a line through his 6th place because this hard puller/stronger traveller isn’t a ride for a 7lb claiming jockey) Giving the improving Mr Baloo over a stone and racing on a unfavourable part of the Chelmsford track to beating the potentially listed/group class, rapidly improving Royal Zabeel a little snugly in the end over a trip probably a touch short for him LTO. That one boosted the form in no uncertain terms at Wolverhampton on his latest run and handicaps are probably out of the window for him now. The negatives are the draw (id prefer a higher one) and if he can translate his solid AW form back to Turf. I’m convinced that he can and at the prices its worth taking the chance that he can. He can take a bit of grip but he'll definitely be able to get cover in here and this genuine horse who stays the Mile really well can get involved in the finish.
Toimy Son (0.5pt @ 16/1, Doncaster 3.35) David Menuisier has no doubt targeted this race for the selection and he be running in all the top Mile Handicaps again this season. He can turn the Ascot form around with Lattam & Thunder Run on this better going and on a more speed favouring track. He has good draw but with his run style he’ll need some luck in running but he can go close if he gets the breaks.

You can be sure that every Horse I put up I back myself so accusations of aftertiming my bets, especially when they get touched off after they hit a very short In running price does sting a bit!
Only play today for me is 2 horses retuning to the AW (which suits them much better than Turf) at Kempton this evening. Lady Manzor (0.5pt @ 11/2) who at least ran with credit on the Turf this Summer is 2 from 3 at Kempton and can carry on improving back on this surface. And My Margie (0.5pt @ 9/1) who performed with less credit on the Turf but there was a promising run at Chelmsford in amongst those runs over a trip (1m2f) that stretched her stamina. All her best form at is at the Mile but a well run race at this 7f trip could well be ideal for her

I notice Ormolulu is running at Southers this evening. She's had to endure some brutal luck in running on her last 2 starts (at 7F ) at York. This looks a good opportunity for her but she's plenty short enough now.

Stallion Watch - Starman
This guy is well and truly on my radar and I thought it would be interesting to keep a notebook of his offspring for the rest of the season. Obliviously Venetian Sun is his flagbearer thus far but there’s been a few others that have impressed me, none more so than The Prettiest Star for Starman’s trainer Ed Walker. He’s also given Jim Boyle an impressive 2yo winner!, yes Jim Boyle! I think nothing more needs to be said……this is a stallion we need to keep on our side!
He’s got 4 runners on Saturday
Trust Army (2.10 Chester) Slow away on debut (Southwell, 6F) she showed very little beating just a couple home. On her next start (7F Haydock) she showed improvement with a keeping on 4th of 10. She drops back to 6F here, which probably isn't ideal and those at the top of the market look very solid. This is probably a run to get a mark and then she’ll no doubt be stepped back up to 7F on Handicap debut.
Risk Adverse Rebel (3.50 Chester) He showed absolutely zero on debut finishing 7th of 7 beaten 30L (7f Haydock) This looks like a run to gain more experience and another run towards getting a mark.
Esna (4.10 Sandown) She’s having her first career start here for Brian Meehan and of course plenty of guesswork will be involved. Interesting to see there was some money around for her this evening at big prices. The Dam (Dubai) has produced winners and one of her daughters produced the very high class but ill-fated Jayarebe who of course was trained by Brian Meehan. For me, this marks Ensa down as the most interesting Starman runner on Saturday.
Houdini Miss (6.10 Chelmsford) She’s improved with racing (5 starts) and going Handicapping. After winning a weakish class 6 Nursery at Kempton in ready fashion LTO she’s been priced up at around 4/6 in another very winnable race here. I get the feeling she’ll rate a fair bit higher than her current mark come the end of the season so it will be disappointing if she fails to follow up that Kempton win here

The Group 3 at Deauville (6.02) looks an interesting betting race and I'm keen to take on the favourite Cocofonix with the 2 British trained runners who I think will have too much toe for him. It's no surprise to see Balmoral Lady (1pt @11/2) head over the channel in search of softer conditions. She can act on good but the Good to firm at Sandown was no good to her last time out. She's a much better horse when the going is riding soft and I expect her to put that poor run behind her today. I also like the profile of Rosy Affair (1pt @5/1) who's looked a improve horse this season, can act on soft and this 6F looks like her optimum trip.
With Houdini Miss now easing out to more acceptable 13/8 (6/4 with the bookmakers offering the prices on the main selections) I've also had 2x0.5pt doubles with the above 2 selections.

Cheers Jinxy, She's a nice filly and I was happy to take on the favourite in that race. Bit disappointed I didn't land the double bet, beaten by one that had shown almost nothing until this evening. BL ran another poor one, It could be that she's on the downgrade now and it's unlikely she carry my money again.

The experience must have done him good because he ran a much better today (4th of 10) in a race that looked better than your average Monday Novice. He can definitely win his Novice and I'll be looking to back him on his next start, price allowing of course.
Stardinia (4.30 Windsor) Ran a very promising race on debut (Leicester 5f) behind a future G2 winner Coppull. She was a touch disappointing in her subsequent 2 races but then won a Catterick maiden (5f) on her 4th start. The 3rd place finisher in that race has since come out and won 2 races on the spin. She now gets a trainer upgrade and is switched to handicaps. She's looked all speed in her races with 5f being her optimum trip but she could be ok at this sharp 6f. She's around the 10/1 mark, which looks a very fair price and there will certainly be worse 10/1 shots running today!

Ourbren (2.30 Bath) She'll be having her first race today and although the stable doesn't get many debut winners, they at least get them and they get plenty placed at big prices. The stable is in fair form and they get winners at Bath. The Dam has produced one offspring that's raced thus far and she's quite a useful sort in France and is now 4-8 after winning for the 4th time last Thursday (Deauville 7F) This looks quite a weak race with those that have raced looking very beatable. She'll probably need the experience but Ourbren looks mildly interesting today at a huge price (66/1)

There were another 2 Starman's that ran today......Hazy Cosmic Jane (2nd 22/1) and Top Lad (3rd of 4 on debut). Not sure why I missed those

Also Soca Star in the 6.15 at Hamilton. She's shown a fair level of form and finished 3rd on debut to Venetian Sun no less! I'm not sure the step up in trip will actually suit her but she's a fair price at around 16/1

Danger Strike (5.18 Lingfield) He's ran 2 promising races thus far without ever looking like he'd win either one. This race could be the third run to get a mark? I wouldn't put anyone off him but I won't be backing him either. There's actually another one in here I'm quite sweet on

3.35 Haydock -The favourite Lazzat looks very solid here and a reproduction of his win in the Jubilee at Royal Ascot would be enough to win this but I'm going to back 2 against him.
Sky Majesty(0.5pt @ 7/1)is starting to put it all together now and with 2 ready wins in Listed and G3 races, she deserves a crack at G1 for a stable who knows how to win this race. Big Mojo (0.5pt @ 12/1) who needs 6F these days and after finishing a fine second in the July Cup, he found the drop to 5F at a speed favouring Goodwood against him LTO. He has form at the track and he should have went close to winning the G2 Sandy Lane with better luck in running here in May. I also still think there's a bit more improvement to come from him

Tabiti has a great chance as long she doesn't hook up with Shisospicy too early. I'm sure Frankie won't allow it but 5/2 is plenty short enough for me. I will probably just watched tonight UD

1.33 Longchamp I'm convinced that Almaqam is the best horse in this race. What I'm not totally convinced about is the suitability of the trip. This is a fact finding for connections with regards to staying the trip in the Arc. The one huge positive today is that he finally has his ideal going. He's still ran to a very high level on good going this Flat season but to see him at his very best, he needs soft conditions. I'm prepared to risk 1pt @ 5/1 to see if he can the stay 1m4f trip today.
WP, a second inside standard (2m 28.32s), wouldn't suggest there's much 'soft' in the ground.
I've been put away by the French Stewards then, GB. I wouldn't have played if I knew there wasn't any soft in the going. I notice that the winner's form is all on quick going, so its no wonder he ran so well today.
Rosallion's race 0.19 sec outside standard, not obviously suggesting there's much give in the ground, unless there's wind assistance up the straight.
Yeah, GB, the times are suggesting its good going. Maybe I'll give Almaqam another try at the trip if he gets his conditions on Arc day.
I thought I'd have a crack at the Ayr Bronze Cup today. (3.40)

Winged Messager (0.5pt @ 12/1) has improved for the application of cheek pieces and the step up from 5F to this 6F trip. He looked a touch unlucky LTO with the hood removed late which resulted him being slow away but he still manged to finish just 1L off the likely favourite today (Eternal Sunshine) He looks on a mark he can win off and although a lower draw would be ideal, Tudhope rides this course well and hopefully he can find a decent position early doors.
The other I like is Kats Bob (0.5pt @ 25/1) who is tough and genuine and is now on his last winning mark. A CD winner, handles soft going and has a decent draw for his prominent racing style area are all ticks in the right boxes.
