They've been reducing my deposit limit over the last 2/3 months... logged in today and account suspended...!!!
Spoke to them on Thursday for 50 mins on chat....I asked how much longer answering a load of inane questions and he couldn't tell me... I finished chat ...they kept asking same questions in different forms over and over again...
I am ahead on Sportbook, Tote and Casino last 12 months... down on exchange..
I suspect they are using the gamble awareness as smokescreen to bar me...!!!
I'm 67 and ive been gambling for 60 years with no problems...
I have no debt and lots of spare time now I'm retired, beggars belief that they stop me betting on here.... Crazy...
Best of luck guys and don't let them get you down.... Adios.....!!!!!

That's your problem, if you was ahead on the exchange and down on the others you'd have been alright.

It’s your own fault, clearly got problems. Started gambling at 7 years of age,35 years before Betfair existed. Customer reduces deposit limit, bookie restricts amount bet. No casino player would ever be blogged.
There’s so many holes in this, the CPS would just refuse to prosecute.

'exactaman', that was disgusting and wholly unnecessary. It showed how inadequate, insensitive and unprofessional the bookie's AC department personnel are. After 60 years yet they think or believe they could teach a pensioner at the game how to suck eggs despite a clean bill of health.
I'm about your age. I tried to buy an Apple Macbook Pro M4 from CurrysClearance on Ebay the other night. My credit card transaction did not go through twice despite the amount (quite colossal) was well within my credit limit. It was deemed a suspicious and dubious transaction; I'd normally use the debit card but just wanted to pay at the end of the month with no interest.
I phoned the card company to ask why. The bloke asked me if I was on my own; anyone encouraged/urged me; whether I was sound and able to think for myself, etc, etc, etc.
I think all these questions were relating to my age eg a pensioner. I think companies are obligated to ask rather personal questions.
But, so far none from bookie yet. If so, I'll leave the game too.

It was the 67 ,been gambling for 60 years,I know slip of tongue, but made me smirk.
Never seen a post of deposits restricted, loads about bets restricted.
Do what you feel you want to,but I wish you all the luck in finding a solution. They are allowed to block you, right or wrong, that’s the system.

'exactaman', ignore some here who shoot from the hip 1st, and think they know it all, and being disrespectful. I read on one of the sport's pages a bloke experienced with horseracing and punting was subject to a stringent AC for losing a mere "40p" a month for the last 12 months (I believe). The AC was only rescinded when the CEO of the bookie concerned was informed. A classic case of an incompetent (CEO) leading a bunch of incompetents (financially unqualified background personnel).
With regard to my predicament this is all part and parcel of being a pensioner (just) ie old. However, the plus side is the ambulance and roadside vehicle assistance would arrive much quicker; swings and roundabouts.
But, it is what it is. Accept it and move on; complain will get you nowhere except a high(er) blood pressure.

I Have been on here over 20 Years, last year my Deposit per Month was reduced to 1K per month, I spoke to the Youngster in the Chat, a Senior, Manager phoned me at Home, i did supply my Annual P60, However to raise my Deposit they wanted my Bank Statements, Sorry No Way!. I regularly have 1K bets on Horses to be Placed and Football games+1 Goal start. In the past i often had bigger bets inc 10K on England to Win a game, and they Did. Its a changing World alright. Good Luck.

Relax exacta,if you are 23 years punting you would have got a written contract from betfair when you joined. So they can't change your contract. So they will have to buy you out,or pay you an average amount of winnings each week ,while you sit on the bench until your contract is sorted out by Paddy/Betfair/

I'm sure they don't want "rid of you" I've been there, so I know how stressful and mind numbingly stupid it all is. It just comes across as incompetent and completely lacking in common sense. The GC gaslighting the bookies is the only reason I can come up with.

I think there is a strong element from the bookies of feeling that if they do apply common sense the GC will hit them with fines of £500k. The GC mouthpiece then says "It's not us it's them" It's psychological warfare, where all parties are driven crazy, and all under the umbrella of improving your quality of life.

Bookmakers (I use the term laughingly) are doing it because they were getting massive fines from the GC for blatantly and persistently being in breach of the 2005 Gambling Act.
The real question should be - why were the "bookmakers" allowed to blatantly and persistently breach the act for the first 15 years or more of it's existence without the GC doing anything about it?
The answer (imo) is that the GC only bothered to enforce the (long) existing Act when it became apparent that the "bookmakers" were proactively shifting from gambling to gaming - to generate as much risk free revenue as possible by profiling, targeting (and harvesting) addicts across a new demographic with casino games and slots.

In a nutshell - if bookmakers had been content with bookmaking, I'm pretty sure the GC would have continued not bothering to enforce the 2005 Gambling Act in exactly the same way as they had not bothered to enforce it (for about 15 years) prior to the proliferation of addictive Casino Games and Slots.

I think the answer to that question is also apparent. Bookmakers are clearly more than happy to inconvenience a handful (relatively speaking) of (predominantly) old, (predominantly) men, betting (predominantly) on an ancient sport that is dying on it's 4rse anyway. In order to protect a much more lucrative and low cost business model where they can target a much wider demographic - particularly women and young people.

That seems to be their policy now TM to leave us older punters out of this nonsense although what good it will do them with their future clientele seems doubtful to say the least.

That makes no sense to me TM. For one thing, if that was really happening (and I don't get the logic) we'd know about it by now. I think the backlog, unfathomable decisions and silence is because they have no belief or confidence in what they are doing or why they are doing it.

Yeah, bookies want shot of boomers with loads of spare cash and sod all to do, so they can target the lucrative housewife and skint 20something demographic.

For sure that would be true of the (low level) people actually physically doing the work CB29 - they are probably agency workers (possibly off-shore) on minimum wage with a few days "training" and a massive staff turnover rate. It's no wonder it is a shambles in terms of execution - but that is just the nature of 21st Century business practice for high volume work - done cheaply and hopelessly badly!
It beggars belief (imo) that at a very senior level, the decision makers (behind the hopelessly executed tasks) in a multi-billion pound industry don't know what they are doing or why they are doing it!

The massive irony for me is that I did my complete cobblers for many years when I was younger - credit, debts, the lot.
No one gave a flying fook. It came close to ruining me at some points.
Now I'm lucrative, well off, controlled and sensible. Yet I'm now much more likely to find myself questioned about my gambling and finances....
The other irony is that many who will be like I was when younger, will still be doing their cobblers - on slots and casino crap.

a) 5% per annum of the disposable income of a very elderly man for the rest of his life. b) 100% of the disposable income of a young person (male or female) potentially for the rest of their life.
That's pretty much the options when choosing between a longstanding but mostly responsible horse racing punter versus grooming an addict onto casino games and slots.
If you're not sure of the answer - visit the homepage of any "bookmaker" or spend a few minutes looking at their marketing/advertising.

What's been happening to the money deposited? Why is he reloading every month? Seems to me he's telling half a story. If you keep depositing and losing it all, bf are going to ask questions. Linking all this to wokeness shows he's not playing with a full deck.

stu - that is the irony for lots of people (of a certain age) I'm sure.
When the GC should have been enacting the Act it could have saved a lot of people a lot of money and a lot of misery. Now that they are finally bothering - it's a massive inconvenience to those same people that have learnt (the hard way).
But in a world with 24/7 access anywhere, would you want your son or daughter to learn the hard way too?

I'd agree I wouldn't want my kids learning the way I did, that's a fair point. In fact I've pretty much encouraged both my sons to hate gambling as they would have similar personality to me when I was younger, luckily neither seems very interested in it.

DIE LINKE you are applying logic and a well oiled Compliance Dept. There is neither. The head of the BHB had his account suspended. Reading stories there are many like him. Here is what happened to me. They asked for documents. I sent them documents and they acknowledged receipt. A few weeks later account suspended. I had £5k in there. A week earlier I had £60k. I was a long term winner paying 40% PC. My commision paid on their calculation was about 12%, so not many losing weeks or months compared to winning ones and it was just off the back of a good win. Used Twitter and Live Chat. Met with a wall of silence. We've reported it to the relevant team. Join the queue. I joined a FB group of those with similar experiences. One guy was still waiting after 6 months.
I knew very quickly I'd get nowhere fast using normal means, so I used Resolver and wrote to the Chief Executive, copying in the RP. explaining that they had a record of my winnings on the account and that by paying 40% PC, I was forced to bet 67% more to return the same amount, and that if they thought I was a problem gambler that was very irresponsible of them. I got an apology and my account was reinstated. About a month later, out of the blue, my account was suspended again. I got the account reinstated again.
About 6-12 months later I got a phone call out of the blue by the Welfare team. "You've been gambling a lot lately, I just wanted to check you are ok." Reality was it was about my quietest period ever. When I said I've made £xxx on this account, I got the condescending reply that just because I was a long term winner didn't mean I couldn't become a problem gambler. I wasn't having a losing spell. So it was both a quiet spell and a winning spell. And I hadn't deposited. I don't deposit any more. Once the algorithm flags you and you are in the system, for whatever reason, then for 99% of people, you are flagged for life.

Clydebank - I don't doubt any of what you say, I've seen similar from somebody I know well and trust - but it begs a few questions (understand if you prefer not to answer).
1) Was the £60k down to £5k (a week later) due to withdrawals or losses. 2) Was the initial "trigger" for your whole sorry episode not a Deposit or an attempt to Deposit?

I withdrew £55k. I mentioned it because I could easily have had £60k in the account and they would think it's acceptable and for my benefit to have no access to it, for months!
The trigger (I think) was increasing my account exposure limit, rather than the deposit, which I think was £5k.

It wouldn't surprise me if that there is a target for the number of account reviews per individual per day. The effect of that will be to spend time on your phone and tea breaks, and to trust the algorithm, rather than engaging brain and actually manually reviewing the account.

As a 21st Century business looking to do everything on the cheap - I'm not sure what else they could do.
Unless they wanted to do it properly - with educated/knowledgable human beings looking at individual cases - but that is unheard of these days, especially in a high volume scenario and in a business where it is traditional to treat your customers like something you have trodden in.
I'd say if you were looking to quickly and cheaply trying to pretend to a regulator that you were concerned about "problem gamblers" the most obvious flags or automated triggers would be variables related to deposits and/or increasing exposure. You did both.
So you know what (in all likelihood) got you flagged-up in the first place - and from that point onwards you were probably in the hands of some newly employed, offshored agency worker with the betting knowledge/experience of a stuffed toy, reporting to somebody of similar skills that has been there 2 weeks longer.
Not saying it's your own fault (it's clearly not!) but I do think you could have easily avoided the situation.

FWIW I was told (by someone who should know), that exposure limit change requests do not trigger KYC checks. I have increased mine a few times with no issues.
Credit check concerns, deposits, unusual/increased activity, and unusually high losses are the potential triggers IMO.

We should probably all be grateful jamee1 at the lack of sophistication involved in the tools identifying (and mis-identifying) "problem gamblers".
If the day ever comes when financial matters aren't the only measure taken into consideration when identifying "problem gamblers" and they start looking at some of the equally valid but rarely talked about measures like "time spent".
Probably not a big problem for the demographic populating this forum - but probably more significant for children with a mum or dad that spends 12 hours a day gambling.
Obviously all the "nanny state" criers will be apoplectic if "time spent" is ever a consideration - but it will probably get to that one day (imo) unless something is done to properly regulate gaming.

the gc dont get enough flak. they are supremely useless and dangerous. i dealt with them for years and as long as they got their 1800 quid they never asked a question, just took the money. i could have been a 12 year old girl for all they knew. so much for safeguarding customers. total bollox. after many years i wilfully witheld payment to see what would happen and i got an emale reminding me about it. said i would give it to them in person, just so they could ascertain i didnt have a bus load of schoolgirls sucking us off while we did our cobblers. they declined and i sent them the money
and where to they get the numbers for their wacky fines? no precedent, no calaculation, just abitrary giant numbers
