Didn’t see it but glad for him. He fecked it up the other day after getting fifteen reds and blacks then snookering himself behind the blue. Said after the game a 147 break was a target he was aiming for. Well done that man.

why do snooker fans pay 100 quid for a tkt to get a worse view than everyone watching at home and pay for an earpiece so they can listen to idiots like Taylor babbling away ?. at least there's an atmosphere at the darts  you cant even let one rip at the snooker
Report Ramruma January 18, 2025 5:26 PM GMT
You could say the same for most sporting events. Racegoers pay to stand in a field watching television. Formula 1 fans see the cars for a few seconds each lap.

You pay to be part of the event.

147 has happened too many times now be much of an attraction or even achievement for me anyway , if i knew a player was on for a 147 i wouldn't switch channels but knowing a result depended on the pink & black i'd head for Eurosport.

9 darter for me, the 147 you can mishit 14 shots  and still get a pot to keep you going, give yourself 2 or 3 options on reds and no comparison to knocking last black in compared to the double and you could also miss half dozen shots in theory before you even  pot a red

28 handicappers can achieve a hole in one.
a very good pub player could achieve a 9 darter.
only a pro or top ranked amateur could achieve a 147.

good point about a 28 handicapper getting a hole in one.never thought of that before, the reason I always go for the 9 darter is evenif you get down to the last double your odds against hitting it as compared to a black 99.99999% of time in a 147 of its spot
Report kingscrewed January 19, 2025 11:27 AM GMT
Believe it was estimated a four thousand to 1 chance for a pro to hit a hole in 1 and a forty thousand to 1 for a amatuer. Not sure what standard of amatuer this was calculated with though.

There are people that have trouble walking and chewing gum at the same time, that have achieved a hole-in-one.

You can't just get lucky once - and achieve a 147 break or a 9-dart finish.

I'd say the 147 is also the most mentally demanding in terms of the pressure and level of concentration required.
Report TameTheTiger January 19, 2025 1:09 PM GMT
hole in one is 1 shot.A 28 handicapper has a chance from 150 yards even if using a 3 wood.

9 darter is a 9 leg accumulator. Say Littler hits the required treble or double 50% of the time, its 511/1 each time he steps up to the oche.

147 is a 36 leg accumulator. Not only do have to pot the right ball, you have get position with the cue ball for the next pot.
Report SlippyBlue January 19, 2025 1:19 PM GMT
As T.M. has already mentioned, literally anyone can get a hole in one.

Report 1st time poster January 19, 2025 1:21 PM GMT
you don't, you can put the ball in the wrong position a dozen times and a good pot can get you out of trouble, with lots of reds  still on the table you can put cue ball in an area leaving you choice of 2,3,4 reds, either by design or by default
Report 1st time poster January 19, 2025 1:23 PM GMT
and you can miss 6 shots at a red before its even started and the other player can split open all the reds for you, 9 darter you've got to be perfect from 1st dart

Report s.kenbo January 19, 2025 2:02 PM GMT
Never heard that claim before. There seems to be a bit of doubt from people who’ve seen him throw a dart.

Apparently Gerwyn Price recently hit a 147 to go with his numerous nine darters. If I were him I’d get a thousand golf balls lined up at a par three one day!

Darts players are trying to throw 9-darters.

Golfers are not trying for holes-in-one but might get lucky as they fire the ball into the general area.

Snooker is more interesting in that there has been a change in style of play. In the 70s and 80s, players would reach for safety and a snooker at the first sign of trouble. Nowadays, there have been so many 147s that top players know it is possible and can be worth taking a risk for.

Although both are difficult  Barry Hearn has made sure they are much easier these days. The reds split so much easier on these super fast cloths and have a look on Youtube in the Bristow era ,I swear the trebles were smaller , wires thicker.
147 more difficult for me , balls are never in the same position.Darts is identical every time , unless there is a breeze in the arena.

I'm sure there have been technological changes in snooker, as frames (!!!) says. Not just cloths, the balls too, and presumably even the chalk as referees aren't having to clean the balls every second shot like they used to.

But the other big change in snooker may have been sociological. There was a big improvement in players after the Steve Davis era, but it seems to have peaked some time back so that today's top players almost qualify for free bus passes because they've not been pushed out by more young'uns. Only one of the world's top ten is under 30, and he's 29. The only young player in the top 20 is Si Jiahui at 22 years old.

The greatest golfer in history is gone.

North Korean dictator/superstar golfer Kim Jong-Il has died at 69 -- a fitting age, because 69 is under par on every regulation golf course.

Kim Jong-Il never needed a swing coach to master the sport of golf.

Kim shot 38 under, including 11 holes-in-one, at the 7,700-yard championship course at Pyongyang in the VERY FIRST golf round of his life, according to North Korean state media. This was in 1994, when Kim was 52 years old. Even more impressive, Kim stood just 5-foot-3, yet he was able to overpower a course as long as any ever played in major championship history. Who knows how good Kim could have been if he had taken up the sport earlier? Who knows how many times he bested 38 under in the 17 years since his first round?

What we do know is that no matter how many more majors Tiger Woods does or doesn't win, the debate of Tiger vs. Jack is really an argument about who is the second-best golfer in history.

More than his undisputed greatness on the course, it's probably Kim's simple approach to the game that will be his enduring legacy. While other great golfers have written books full of tips, tricks and swing thoughts, Kim had the best approach to conquering the sport of golf: Have your national propaganda department lie for you.
