someone on here said it was raceable yesterday and temps have been above freezing since yesterday morning
Report Ramruma January 14, 2025 9:08 AM GMT
-1 overnight.
Report hulk23 January 14, 2025 9:52 AM GMT
hasn't been below zero at the track since 11am on Sunday, per the Met Office.

6 degrees on Sunday afternoon, 6 degrees on Monday afternoon, rising to 9 degrees this afternoon.
Report isleham January 14, 2025 9:54 AM GMT
Surprised at that decision..sunny here in Surrey with no frost at all yesterday morning and this morning
Report Tom Salt January 14, 2025 10:18 AM GMT
I'm amazed - no frost where I am 20 miles East and lovely and sunny - been for a five mile cycle ride - very pleasant conditions.

Meanwhile, it's grim up North. Today

Matt Chapman lives near Plumpton and he was saying yesterday afternoon at Lingfield that he thought it had no chance of going ahead

Your back garden is very different to a poached bare racecourse
Report jamee1 January 14, 2025 12:21 PM GMT
Really? It's sunny and 8 degrees at Plumpton right now. Crazy
Report hulk23 January 14, 2025 12:31 PM GMT
poached bare racecourse

is that from their marketing Laugh
Report Twoboyz January 14, 2025 12:34 PM GMT
Hulk Laugh No but i think its pretty accurate
Report PompeyMike January 14, 2025 1:12 PM GMT
Now 11c at Plumpton. Checked at 1.10
Report kennethturrell1 January 14, 2025 1:21 PM GMT
Well they made the decision but still surprised as it a sunny day down here in Sussex no wind no frost temp above 10c
Report 1st time poster January 14, 2025 1:48 PM GMT
yeh unlike your garden  a racecourse has 50 staff looking after the course 24/7 or so  COC keep telling us they do
Report hulk23 January 14, 2025 2:38 PM GMT
doubt kenneth has invested too heavily in frost covers.

i'd be taking them back if the gaffs still frozen at sunny and 10 degrees for 3 days.
Report Cash Is King January 14, 2025 2:38 PM GMT
Strange decision. I live close to the track. It's 8 degrees and has been since mid morning.

If there were one or two frozen patches they'd have long since disappeared.

Clerk of Course appears to have messed up twice recently - first by being overly optimistic ahead of the track's big Sussex National meeting (abandoned at last minute) and second by being unduly pessimistic at this morning's 8am inspection. Wouldn't have happened in Mark Cornford's day.

people turning up in t-shirts, shorts and sunglasses

sorry, racings off.  frozen track innit.
Report isleham January 14, 2025 3:52 PM GMT
11 degrees now in Surrey and was a lovely pleasant morning so surely too early a decision..if it had bad patches they need to change their groundsmen.
Report 11kv January 14, 2025 5:23 PM GMT
Watered and it froze
