you are probably right tiger had the heating on 24/7 , just thinking back to  when I was a nipper used ton go night fishing in weather as bad or worse than this back in the 1960s and 70s just a camp bed a  thin sleeping bag and pub garden parasol with polythene sheeting pegged around it ,would often cast out in the night and hear a clanking instead of a splash where the water had frozen over . musta been crazy

Central heating has a lot to answer for Foyles. Was visiting friends in Langdon Beck last night, minus 15 at its coldest,a 25 minute walk to the pub, 30 minutes back of course!

This is when wfh is a particularly welcome societal development!

I'm in a new build so that's great in this weather too, not so great in the warm summer evenings.

whatever the weather and temperature in the uk tonight, spare a thought for the guys in Bastogne Dec 1944.In the central Ardennes, Bastogne became a focal point, surrounded by German divisions. The battle, fought under harsh conditions with temperatures feeling like minus 28 degrees Celsius, resulted in high casualties on both sides.

Correct foyles......WMO confirms 2024 as warmest year on record at about 1.55°C above pre-industrial level. The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) has confirmed that 2024 is the warmest year on record, based on six international datasets

We used to get snow from November right through to February. Only get it in short phases now and then rain washes it away. Tonight -20c forecast is a rarity now. Definitely a lot milder here now than last century Sparrow.

.... generally speaking. 5c - 0c is the average now. -20c like tonight is a rare occurence now.

does anyone remember the winter of 1962 ,as  a nipper walking to school it seemed at the time the walls of  frozen snow were about 6 ft high , looking on those youtube vids they were higher , we had to use an outside khazi ,on a freezing night  night you didnt linger in there ! grimm!

Cortina back then was a great car. We had a Ford Zephyr and was only car in the street in early 70s.

...... Now there are 3/4 cars to every house. All up to their eyes in debt.
