I was thinking the same when the commentator said they were going a sedate pace, madness waiting for a sprint finish on a stamina proven horse.

Inner seems fast enough based on the results of race 2 & 4.

EL11, you're guilty of watching the closing stages only, both Forge Valley Lad and Kiniro raced away from the rail for most of the contest, and in race 3 where you had pretty much evens each of two, the one who had the outer trip comfortably beat the one with the inner trip.

It's not conclusive because Paradoxical spent the first mile on the inner but still ran well, though the two who stuck to the inner throughout in that contest - Kojin and Moon Over The Sea - both finished well beaten.
