Did they expect him to lose his last three? Perhaps the French form isn't that good? There were plenty who thought Willy De Houelle was a certainty, and that didn't turn out very well.
I wouldn't be able to confirm that differentdrum but he was 2nd in a grade 1, and just thought it was bizarre that he's already been pinpointed to go to stud in Feb for €7,000 a pop so maybe a win in this is to make the fee higher, who knows
