By:
Not a hope in hell she goes for te Mares Race.
By:
at least 1 of them will bottle it imo
By:
Fair enough a lot can go wrong between now and Cheltenham but as it stands we all know it will be The Champion Hurdle.
By:
That performance put an end to any other Race.

That old Warrior Stateman has had his Day.

Lossiemouth must go Champion. Surely. Only beaten 2 lengths and might have more chance against Cons Hill ?
Jetera wins Mares otherwise ![]() |
By:
2nd fav or 3rd in every race Acey. Mostly 2nd favs. Fav in first and Stateman did the damage.

Did Townend deliberately finish behind the 66-1 no hoper Winter Fog to take the heat off him for riding a **** of a Race?.....Asking for a friend.

Opinions welcome.

Patrick Mullins writing for Sky Bet:
“But I’m all in on State Man here. Whatever santa cost, whatever the Christmas dinner cost, get it back on State Man.“ Hmm. |

or maybe they changed their minds and laid argento boy for 5 grand to pay the Xmas ex,s

'Acey', my sincere apology. I did not envisage Townend could ride the reigning Champion Hurdler like dog poo. But, in Ireland anything goes eg Geraghty on Noble Emperor at Limerick.
Maybe State Man was sulking because of his pilot, or gone with the game or Mr Mullins' charges are under a cloud. One more trial left here and in England for Lossiemouth and State Man; Mystical Power ran like dog poo too. |

Did Townend deliberately finish behind the 66-1 no hoper Winter Fog to take the heat off him for riding a **** of a Race?.....Asking for a friend was still 6/4 4 out...lay much? |
By:
I dont think Townend will sleep to well the Night after that ride....Mr cool let the front two get far far to much Daylight and he knows it.

By:
I am a massive Townend fan i think he is brilliant but he facked up there of course he would have got beat anyway but not by 30l ffs.

Townend did nothing wrong, he thought they were going too fast just like every other person who watched the race did, if they were getting a cheap lead King of Kingsfield wouldn't have been falling out the back of the telly late on, but he was because they went too fast, well what you'd think was too fast, trouble is, the winner showed herself to be a monster that didn't conform to usual confounds, that's why despite the pace they went she was still maintaining the gap, eased down right to the line.
If Stateman tried to lay up with the front two throughout he'd have been stretchered out off the home turn too. |
By:
Looking back at the race Townend was squeezing State Man from about halfway. Perhaps the horse needs it softer these days, or isn't the same horse anymore? He took an age to get past the pacemaker, then got passed by a horse he would've shrug aside easily last season.
By:
another way of looking at it is statesman may have been another in the yard that is not right for whatever reason, bug can affect many but some escape it or have not been affected by it as yet ,same with us 30 or 40 people together 1 has a bug/flu a week later most have caught it or showing symptoms but a it wont affect all a handful will escape it . can you take that race at face value would the mare beat stateman 30 plus lengths in normal circs ? has she improved 30 pounds in 5 or 6 weeks ? very doubtful ,more like shes run to form and stateman wasn't right ,loads of the yards horses have performed below expectations .
By:
Townend said he knew after the first he was in trouble as the horse felt flat. Big few weeks before the DRF for Willie to get them right.
By:
Patrick Mullins for Sky Bet:
“I'd still like another go at her with State Man in February“ Presumably he’ll be urging you to lump on in February to recover the money spent on Christmas and lost due to State Man being squeezed dry in the biggest mismatch since Eskimo Nell v Mexico Pete. |
By:
And the worrying thing is Brighterdaysahead and Lossiemouth look like they will both miss The Irish Champion Hurdle.
By:
There’s logic in Mullins words. If BDA goes there is she really going to make it a big test again so close to Cheltenham up the hill not long after. I think not.
By:
The tactics and probably a better horse now in BDA are what beat State Man who may be declining
By:
Lossiemouth could do with more experience at Cheltenham in the Unibet International
By:
State Man experienced a race that he'd pretty much never experienced before, in the CH that he lost to Con Hill he was gradually squeezed until he was left with nothing to offer late on, here it was more aggressively applied and it killed him off much quicker, he's built his legacy in races completely different to this, he didn't under perform, this is what he really is and probably always has been it's just that he's rarely before ever had the opposition to expose it.

By:
Stevie Wonder and Ray Charles aka Duffy and Eric or vice versa, clueless !!!
By:
I agree Duffy Stateman did not underperfom Ballyburn did not underperform and neither dod Lossiemouth that is how i see it anyway.
By:
After her victory on Sunday, they would be crazy to run Brighterdaysahead again before Cheltenham.
By:
ROFL re- State Man!!! Suddenly regressed to less than 150, behave acey!!
By:
Show your workings on State Man Cagliari, show us the races he has previously run in and won that were similar to the way the race was run the other day in order to show that he was capable of a performance required to win the other day so we have evidence to see that it might have just been an off day??. What race are you highlighting as an example???
By:
You seem to believe all those grade 1's he won against non grade 1 2 milers in races run at dawdles warranted his lofty rating of 169...that's where we differ, I think that if he faced the race he faced the other day more often he would have been exposed a long time ago.

By:
Winter Fog is rated same as Burdett Road so not a bad effort
