worked as usual for me this morning - will keep an eye out for any strangeness
longbridge, I suspect an update last night might have changed something but now I just get them to send a code by SMS as I can't see a QR code anywhere on screen.

google tried to make me log in for an update yesterday - I refused. Today the codes are in bigger font but working ok.
Google have caused untold misery for millions with their so called security and updates.
Can I set up 2step without requiring Google sign in?
You can get some backup codes off your account page
i don't know why they can't do a sms message with a code to smart phone

I *think* you can (I did mine many years ago)
You need the Google Authenticator app on your phone but I don't think that requires a Google account/login - it's been a long while though, so I might be wrong.
