The last of the classics and Moore,James Doyle,Marquand and even Loughnane and Kingscote are in Ireland. Meanwhile Buick and Murphy are in Canada. Fings Ain't What They Used To Be.

You'd think they'd give their eye teeth to ride a stallion prospect in the St Leger.

Hold on. That's not quite right.

You'd think they'd give their eye teeth to ride a National Hunt stallion prospect in the St Leger.

And that's why they are in Ireland and Canada.

Would have been unthinkable at one time but now our best five jockeys Moore, Doyle, Marquand, Buick and Murphy are not bothering!

Probably the easiest decision of their career to choose Leopardstown today , besides that Doncaster meeting is so uninviting and the Leger only really interesting if a horse is attempting the crown , as it is it just looks like the 3.40 at Doncaster.   Happy

That is the problem.
I suppose Doncaster COULD cram most of the meeting's feature races on to the Sat card, but obviously they'd have to avoid a clash with that Leopardstown card.

Doncaster's St. Leger has lost its appeal. Top jockeys not interested in riding a future NH stallion. If RM could land AR a winner in Leopardstown, earnings for all would be enormous. A gigantic pension for a long long time. Easy to see why RM is in Ireland today.

All on horses for their main employers.

Another clashing clanger.  I feel sure this race would benefit from being moved to a week earlier.  The only races of importance were the Haydock Sprint on Saturday 7th, and the Prix du Moulin on the Sunday.  The Irish Saturday card was Navan and no racing in Ireland on Sunday the 8th. All the rest were mostly handicaps.
It would also give a bit more time to prepare for the 'Arc if one was good enough.

As it is, it's being reduced to a bit player on the International scene, a loss of confidence in the product, which tends to echo the country as a whole.  Just another Coolmore benefit race for a particular type of stallion they produce in abundance.
