Trip to Wuster yesterday - won't be going back.

Anyhow saw reasonably close up the Amateur jockey rising his horse in the last, it falls three out, she doesn't move - not a muscle.  Pretty clear she was out stone cold and after the race finished the screens go up around the unfortunate Lauren Hawkings with quite a few visibly upset stable staff.

Anyhow, I thought I would check up on Kim Bailey's blog page today for any update on her condition http://www.kimbaileyracing.com/baileys-blog/ to find a brief mention of her ending up in ICU in Birmingham before Kim returns to the more pressing subject of test match ticket prices and his friends on the train and condom adverts....

Does he really write this nonsense?

Isn't his blog considered to be the best on the market?

It's a private matter really, and many times the medics haven't yet passed all info to the next of kin, never mind the details made public. Quite often the medics don't even know the prognosis themselves, depending up the nature of injuries. I appreciate that there is a public interest in the welfare of a jockey immediately after witnessing a serious accident, but having a pop at KB for not going into detail the next day on his blog seems OTT. If he did have additional insight (quite likely doesn't), he likely wouldn't be going into it publicly.

I suppose it's a sign of the depressing SM era where people want to know the business of others, and demand it to be disclosed immediately.

Loving the satirical response Cider.

I visited KB's site as my wife was keen to know if she was OK.

Sharring Confused

You visited KB's site and got an update that you could pass on to your wife. It's not all you did though is it, bizarrely you subsequently decided to take to the betfair forum and have a moan up as it wasn't enough detail for you. Did you only want to receive responses that were sympathetic to yours? It doesn't take a genius to work out that it's not likely to be positive. Grow up man.

Amateur jockey Lauren Keen-Hawkins in critical care with head injury after fall at Worcester.

Amateur jockey Lauren Keen-Hawkins is in critical care after sustaining a serious head injury from a fall in a handicap hurdle at Worcester on Sunday.

The rider, who is based with Kim Bailey, came down aboard Faerie Cutlass at the third-last in the 2m4f handicap hurdle. She was knocked out and screens were put up while she was attended to and an air ambulance landed in the centre of the track.

Keen-Hawkins, who has ridden one winner under rules, was subsequently taken to hospital in Birmingham via a road ambulance.

A statement from the Injured Jockeys Fund read: “Amateur jockey Lauren Keen-Hawkins had a fall in the last race at Worcester racecourse on Sunday and was taken by ambulance to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham.

"Lauren has suffered a serious head injury and is now in critical care. Her parents and partner are with her and they kindly ask for privacy at this difficult time.”

The Amateur Jockeys Association said its thoughts were with Lauren and her family in a statement, which read: "It's good to know that Lauren is receiving the best possible medical care and we're most grateful as always for the pastoral care given by the IJF. We all hope and pray for Lauren’s speedy recovery."

Bailey praised Keen-Hawkins as a key member of his team. She has had 12 rides under rules and won aboard Dandy Dan at Cheltenham's hunter chase night in 2022.

The trainer said: "Lauren has been with me for six or seven years, she does all the riding work and schooling and is a really important part of our team. She's been point-to-pointing for years as well and she won at Cheltenham."

Popular veteran Two For Gold is among the horses Keen-Hawkins has looked after for the Cheltenham stable.

She was having her third ride of the season at Worcester, having also partnered Faerie Cutlass to a second-place finish on his last start.

From RP THIS EVENING.

We all wish her Well in the coming weeks and months.

As a matter of interest HistoricWarwick, why won't you be going back to Worcester, i know it's a pain to get out of the car park (like many other courses, Warwick included), but what didn't you like about it other than the young jockeys unfortunate incident?

Stewarts - I take my wife and teenage daughter regularly and during the Summer it tends to be a centre course picnic job.  I appreciate Worcester had its problems pre racing last Sunday with animal cruelty protesters but, the issues we and and other families had were with stewards and miscommunication.  Not expecting much at Worcester but, they were either unprepared, really disorganised or have problems with people trying to get in for free.  Two lads managed this by saying they were jockeys - each carrying a pint of something strong...  Top tip for driving to Warwick races - council have a large free car park on Cape Road at weekends!

Update from KB Daily blog - today.....

This is the latest statement from the IJF on Lauren..

“Following her fall at Worcester on Sunday, Lauren remains at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham. She was unconscious for an extended period of time, and as would be expected after this, Lauren has now entered a stage termed Post Traumatic Amnesia (PTA). This means she is sleeping a lot of the time, with bouts of confusion, but can recognise and communicate with family members for brief periods.

Her parents Philip and Karen report that she is showing signs of improvement. They would like to thank the hospital team for their amazing care of Lauren, and are also extremely grateful for the overwhelming amount of support they have received.

It is likely that Lauren will have an MRI scan in the next few days to further assess her injury.”

I am sure Lauren would love to have a couple of Oasis tickets.. Could be difficult judging by all the hype..
