For the first time ever, I had a maximum pay out restriction on an e/w Lucky 31 last night (with Uncle William) of £50,000. The theoretical return would be about £86,000 if all 5 horses were to win today. My normal stake for this bet is £31 (50p e/w Lucky 31). The usual pay out restriction for placing bets the evening before racing is £250,000 (normally that's with my 25p e/w Lucky 63).
On the day of racing I have on rare occasions had a £1 million maximum pay out quoted on the day of racing, but usually it's £250.000 even then! Having read their T's and C's thoroughly many times, I have still yet to find out how they decide when to apply a £250,000 maximum pay out (after 10am on the day of racing), or £1 million (after 10am on the day of racing).
The only conclusion is that it's due to their turnover on horse racing is slowly reducing as the years progress. I welcome anyone else's thoughts on this.

50k cap is on racing that's not UK&Ire, France, Dubai, US, Australia, South Africa from the page I saw - I cannot think what the OP is betting on if his bet falls into that category?

i cant see why anyone would do a 50p lucky anything. hardly worth it. back the singles on here if you like but those full perms are daft

Ok guys - sorry for the delay in replying. First of all, my bets are always ALL on UK racing only. Immediately beneath the betting confirmation it quite clearly says 'Max. Payout £250,000'. If the calculated winnings on all horses winning are below that limit, then they show that sum rather than the £250,000. The £250,000 limit is only shown if the calculated maximum winnings goes above that amount. That is shown on placing the multiple bet both the night before AND on the day of racing as well and as said earlier on rare occasions they show the limit on the day of racing as £1,000,000. How that is decided I've no idea.
Mitolo - I disagree. Some of my greatest wins have been with multiple bets. The best one was on Easter Sunday 2009 when I had 4 winners from 4 selections with an e/w Lucky 15 returning £18,790.60. I bought a nice Toyota car with it! I've had other smaller wins since, but I enjoy the buzz of having an interest in all the races that are played out over several hours. It makes for an entertaining afternoon's racing and I invariable get some sort of return from my multiple bets which generally don't cover the stake, but on very rare occasions a decent size win does come in. But last night was the first time that I had seen a £50,000 payout restriction on my e/w Lucky 31. |

wasnt querying the multis, just luckies. if the 1st 3 go in do you really want the singles on the last 2? bookies luv em, thats why theres never a shortage of slips for them
why not a canadian and do the singles here if none of them have gone in? |

xmoneyx - when you say that BF allow a higher limit, are you referring to their Sports section of the company, because as I understand it, the exchanges stopped accepting multiple bets some time ago now? I don't use BF Sports any more now since they restricted my account some years ago. My only options to place multiple bets are with the two remaining online bookies that I use OR walk down town and place any multiple bets in any of the local bookie offices. I've not had to do that yet thankfully!

I do miss Exchange Multiples (there were some nice features like the dutching) but the only "Exchange" thing about them was being paid at BSP (minus 5% as I recall) - you were betting against BF as a bookmaker.

Hi mitola - yes, I understand what you're saying and I DO back them singly as well separately. If I get just ONE winner from, say, 6 selections with the e/w Lucky 63, then, depending on the price of the winner (I very rarely back anything less than 5/1) the returns can almost pay for the stake, especially as bookies pay out a bonus of double the odds for just one winner.
TheGoddess - yes, I did have a multiple bet today, but just a £2 e/w Patent on three of Billy Loughnane's rides at Brighton this afternoon. I picked his three highest priced ones which were 'Fighting Poet' @ 15/2, 'Waleyfa' @ 11/2 and the third was 'Wake Up Harry' which was withdrawn. So two winners and one W/D which returned a total of +£328.25 plus £10 single wins on the three plus my £10 returned for the withdrawn horse giving a total profit on the day of +£430.25 |

Just to add that some horses are yet to run this evening for the e/w Lucky 31 that I mentioned earlier. I'll post the results of that later on this evening.

Ok - here are the results of the Lucky 31 bet as mentioned previously:
Brighton - 'Largo Bay' placed @ 9/1 Brighton - 'Irezumi' won at 5/1 Nottingham - 'Rock N Roll Pinkie' lost @ 11/1 Wolverhampton - 'Liberty Mountain' lost @ 12/1 Wolverhampton - 'My Turn Now' lost @ 17/2 £10 to win on each plus a £0.50 e/w Lucky 31. Total stakes were £81 Total returns were £60 for the single win and £10.88 returned for the Lucky 31. So, slight loss on the bets of -£10.12 |

Exactly xmoneyx - it's worked well for me long term over many years. I am starting to place more and more of the single bets on the BF Exchange, mainly because I am 'forced' to due to account restrictions/closures over the last 10 years. I did start off with about 12 online bookies 10 years ago and are now down to 2 only. I was with 888 Sport only for 6 weeks when they just completely blocked me from placing ANY bets with them. So, the future for me is going to be the Exchange only and I may have to forego placing any multiple bets at all once I lose the final two bookies (I think it's a question of when and not if), because I'm certainly not going to trudge down town just to place those bets there. Luckily, there is no danger of any restrictions or closures with the exchanges (I'm a backer only by the way and not a layer). The exchange is something relatively new to me, so I've had to get used to the site and how it works.

HA - interesting - I've just placed another e/w Lucky 31 for tomorrow's racing (with Uncle William again) and this time no £50,000 limit. The bet has a maximum quote of about £86,000 which is the theoretical return on the assumption that all 5 horses win.
Strange --- why the restriction last night, but not tonight? Bookies minds work in mysterious ways! I think if I rang them up and asked them, not even THEY would know the reason why!! |
