.1 sec might/might not. The point is there are plenty of bots/near bots that simply aren't going to leave money up to be scooped when it is value. They want it taken when there is a lot of uncertainty about the outcome. ie true value is 4 they want there bets in at 3.5 lay 4.5 back and then gone if not taken.

Go and play with the other conspiracy loons. There's plenty to choose from on this forum.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The only relevant question anyway is why the 1 sec delay is still in operation. It isn't protecting anyone from slow pictures and it just annoys casual punters who want to click and get on.

The delay drives liquidity by creating an advantage to those putting money up. A market needs market makers to function.

the mug money wants to click and play, market makers should find a way of accomodating them not fleecing them in the quickest time possible.

jamee that's what betfair say, any evidence? how many people see 10 and get matched at 5 and think sod this? layers may offer lesser odds but market forces would dictate the price if the layer wants the business

Betfair actually once said the 1 sec delay was there so their x-matching BOT could function properly...

person (rico) see horse A trading at 80..rico clicks £5 @1000..money in pink all instantly vanishes..

office manager in BF towers with a megaphone shouts...
rico's offering 1000
robot sez whats it trading..
office manager shouts its current 80
robot sez..give him 1p - 17p every price and the balance at 1000.

and daves asking why the delay is there.Crazy

The in-running market definitely functions differently from what it has done in the past. I have reduced the size of my bets by about a factor of 10 due to a lack of trust in it.

so,to sum up..you click..the money in the boxes instantly vanishes,in the next 1 sec your request is analysed by a soffhisstikated computer cistern and if your request suits the host its spread out in increments of as little amounts as possible till ewe hit the overide and the remainder is settled at that..

this seams like a decent cistern...is it kosher?

@hibby

"Betfair actually once said the 1 sec delay was there so their x-matching BOT could function properly..."

Cross-matching works in pre-play (zero delay) markets, so that is hard for me to understand.

This is their official line

In-play markets usually carry a time delay varying from 1-12 seconds. This delay is in place to allow customers to cancel unmatched orders on the system when there is a change in market conditions. This delay protects both backers and layers and leads to greater liquidity.

how does it protect BACKERS please ?
By:
dave1357
When: 07 Aug 24 16:59
presumably they mean unmatched backers who can cancel
By:

When: 07 Aug 24 16:59
Cricket in-running you cancel orders when you hear a wicket before backers can take your money
By:
dave1357
When: 07 Aug 24 17:02
Cricket has a much longer delay. We are talking about 1 sec, so only the fastest pic users are going benefit.

Musk comes across as a bit of an insomniac type Mr.Hunt so i would expect a response around 4am tbh.

so the 'it's so our x-matching bot can work properly' line has been ditched then ?

id be very surprised you can do anything on the cricket given the number of pitchsiders with mega-fast equipment creaming off chunks. ive seen em and they have made 10s of millions to my certain knowledge
