As per racing post tonight, and he took the prices as you can’t take sp on multiples as they banned it, your were better with sp but they banned sp on multiples, you can guess why overall it always pays more, this win we have no proof, so this supposed win was on a rare occasion that the sportsbook prices beat the sp, as it’s very rare I suppose they don’t publish the ones where sp beats the sports book prices which is most of the time and no one uses multiples on horse racing anyway, no one apart from this mistic Meg

No-one uses multiples on horses?  Always used to be a staple of the betting shop in the 90s, and I can't imagine there are not still people doing 25p EW luckies or £1 accas on outsiders these days?
Report elisjohn July 25, 2024 6:01 AM BST
i loved the multiples  on the bertfair exchange, you could back and lay on the accas etc, and you could have for example a £ 5 acca where you could have say 8 races and have 3 or 4 horses in each leg , the bet just cost the £5 , i used to get that up a good few times , miss that one
Report Regbutler July 25, 2024 7:59 AM BST
Agree with Longbridge
I go in my local baldy shop every day and I would guess 75% or more of the punters betting on horses are doing multiples of some type...
The lucky 15/31/63 slips are always being replenished

Someone like Ronnie may have a good observation on it
Report impossible123 July 25, 2024 11:30 AM BST
Has the punter been paid? The withdrawal could be extremely taxing post a significant win, I gather. If so, I hope the punter spends the money wisely certainly not on the crack cocaine of racing; the shares of Entain could look appetizing to some not risk-averse.

Things have changed as elisjohn pointed out multiples were on the exchange and you could have 1 or more horses in them so say 2 or 3 in every race, it was really profitable and they closed it, then then did sp which since lockdown the bsp will beat early prices on sportsbook, again they closed that one down you can only take a price now, they close them down when you find a edge and as pointed out lots of us found that edge, multiples are profitable if you know what your doing those that don’t use the edge  ew all ew on multiples wouldn’t have a clue anyway and that’s most I’m afraid
Report elisjohn July 25, 2024 4:31 PM BST
serious question? Anyone know for sure if you can still bet ante post in shops and just want starting price ,
Report saxon farm July 25, 2024 4:43 PM BST
Well it certainly should be allowed as it always used to be. Also it’s money back if NR when you take SP.
Report penzance July 25, 2024 4:46 PM BST
Would think a price has to be taken A/P.
Report swiftynifty July 25, 2024 5:37 PM BST
elisjohn, why would you place an antepost bet at SP?
Report impossible123 July 25, 2024 5:42 PM BST
If SP, does it mean non-runner-no-bet? Otherwise, it defeats the objective of betting antepost.
Report layingisthewayforward July 25, 2024 5:46 PM BST
I'm guessing it was Hulk who got the acca up?
Report Hayden July 25, 2024 5:48 PM BST
Odds too short for Hulk , he wants at least a million    Happy
Report elisjohn July 25, 2024 5:57 PM BST
i knew someone would ask that swifty? valid point, for me eg i might lay an 2/1 shot on here for next years gns , i might cover my bet with bookmakers over the winter, perhaps the price with them 11/8, i would place sp , you could win on the lay get all your money back from shops, you might get an sp of way over the 2/1, and of course you could lose out with an on the day sp of 1/2, its just my ways of doing big races on occassions , and especially if i do an accumulator over the winterand they all come in and find out my gns horse is a nr and id taken ante post odds that would be a sickner.   Also the best scenario for me was win on the lay on exchange, horse wins the race , but gets disqualified if sp is taken id win as well with shops, ante post prices do not pay on winners disqualified. , ( sorry if bit difficult to follow)Grin.
Report elisjohn July 25, 2024 5:58 PM BST
oh yes Imp, sp 100% on ante post bets is money back , well it used to be
Report layingisthewayforward July 25, 2024 6:07 PM BST
Why would you want to lay at 2/1 and back at 11/8?
Report elisjohn July 25, 2024 6:12 PM BST
that what i said, i wouldnt back 11/8 id take sp,
Report elisjohn July 25, 2024 6:17 PM BST
i lay here 2/1 grand say,  i could put that grand in shops at sp, , if nr id win on here and get all my stake back in shop. there is also a good chance sp could well be bigger on the day, of course it could well be shorter , thats where i have to consider the value  eg .like now i reckon that bedtime story will be much bigger on the day than the 3/1 on here now   ( its just my way of doing things occassionly To cover my lay on here )
Report swiftynifty July 25, 2024 6:18 PM BST
surely just back it back on the day without the NR risk of an AP bet. I'm assuming you're thinking the SP bet(not being classed as antepost) would be NR in multis, fair enough.
Report elisjohn July 25, 2024 6:21 PM BST
yes of course , that more or less what i mean , youve said it simplier than my way
Report penzance July 25, 2024 6:22 PM BST
A/P is all in run or not.
Report elisjohn July 25, 2024 6:30 PM BST
yes, but not if you take sp , thats my original ? , do bookies take sp only bets on ante post , they used to
Report ----you-have-to-laugh--- July 25, 2024 6:36 PM BST
They used to take bets by post too...
Report elisjohn July 25, 2024 6:41 PM BST
to put it simply then, can you go into bookies on a saturday morning put a bet on that afternoon race and tell them i want it at sp not on the adverised price ,?
Report s.kenbo July 25, 2024 6:44 PM BST
Yes.
Report penzance July 25, 2024 6:44 PM BST
That aint A/P is it.
Report elisjohn July 25, 2024 6:50 PM BST
no penzance, but same scenario , putting a bet on and not wanting advertised price,   ,    , ps all i want to know if anyone here, bookmaker etc could answer that    can i still take sp on future races or not . Wheres Ronnie im sure hed answer for certain .
Report s.kenbo July 25, 2024 6:53 PM BST
Of course you can, Ellis. You write out a slip with your selections on it and hand it over the counter. They will be more than happy not to have to look up the prices too.
Report elisjohn July 25, 2024 6:54 PM BST
cheers kenbo
Report s.kenbo July 25, 2024 6:56 PM BST
That kind of reminds me of a great post Slippy Blue made years ago. I’m paraphrasing to a degree but it goes something like…. If a cashier pisses you off then go and write out an obscure 10 fold acca for future events. Ask for the price on all selections. Make the stake 10p. Continue as many times as you like! Laugh
Report swiftynifty July 25, 2024 6:57 PM BST
I'd be careful placing months before the race, would assume it will be classed as ante post, price taken or not.
Report penzance July 25, 2024 6:58 PM BST
The bet will be A/P,you'll lose your stake.
Report elisjohn July 25, 2024 7:02 PM BST
no penzance, if i bet on city of troy for arc today, tell bookies iwant it Sp only , if horse doesnt run youd get your money back , that is  100%  certain if they still take sp bets on future races
Report freddiewilliams July 25, 2024 7:05 PM BST

Report the old nanny ;-) July 25, 2024 7:07 PM BST
They used to take bets by post too...

used to settle them when I worked at hill house ,always loads of Non Runners
Report penzance July 25, 2024 7:09 PM BST
If you've done that in the past it must be right.
I never knew that.Still have my doubts.
Report saxon farm July 25, 2024 7:17 PM BST
We’ll I managed betting shops for nearly 20 years finishing in 2003, and took plenty of A/P sp bets, and if they don’t turn up you get your money back.
Report elisjohn July 25, 2024 7:28 PM BST
take ante post price , horse gets thrown out they wont pay you on double result, they would on sp only bets ,
