As per racing post tonight, and he took the prices as you can’t take sp on multiples as they banned it, your were better with sp but they banned sp on multiples, you can guess why overall it always pays more, this win we have no proof, so this supposed win was on a rare occasion that the sportsbook prices beat the sp, as it’s very rare I suppose they don’t publish the ones where sp beats the sports book prices which is most of the time and no one uses multiples on horse racing anyway, no one apart from this mistic Meg
No-one uses multiples on horses? Always used to be a staple of the betting shop in the 90s, and I can't imagine there are not still people doing 25p EW luckies or £1 accas on outsiders these days?

i loved the multiples on the bertfair exchange, you could back and lay on the accas etc, and you could have for example a £ 5 acca where you could have say 8 races and have 3 or 4 horses in each leg , the bet just cost the £5 , i used to get that up a good few times , miss that one

Agree with Longbridge I go in my local baldy shop every day and I would guess 75% or more of the punters betting on horses are doing multiples of some type... The lucky 15/31/63 slips are always being replenished
Someone like Ronnie may have a good observation on it

Has the punter been paid? The withdrawal could be extremely taxing post a significant win, I gather. If so, I hope the punter spends the money wisely certainly not on the crack cocaine of racing; the shares of Entain could look appetizing to some not risk-averse.

Things have changed as elisjohn pointed out multiples were on the exchange and you could have 1 or more horses in them so say 2 or 3 in every race, it was really profitable and they closed it, then then did sp which since lockdown the bsp will beat early prices on sportsbook, again they closed that one down you can only take a price now, they close them down when you find a edge and as pointed out lots of us found that edge, multiples are profitable if you know what your doing those that don’t use the edge ew all ew on multiples wouldn’t have a clue anyway and that’s most I’m afraid

i knew someone would ask that swifty? valid point, for me eg i might lay an 2/1 shot on here for next years gns , i might cover my bet with bookmakers over the winter, perhaps the price with them 11/8, i would place sp , you could win on the lay get all your money back from shops, you might get an sp of way over the 2/1, and of course you could lose out with an on the day sp of 1/2, its just my ways of doing big races on occassions , and especially if i do an accumulator over the winterand they all come in and find out my gns horse is a nr and id taken ante post odds that would be a sickner. Also the best scenario for me was win on the lay on exchange, horse wins the race , but gets disqualified if sp is taken id win as well with shops, ante post prices do not pay on winners disqualified. , ( sorry if bit difficult to follow).

i lay here 2/1 grand say, i could put that grand in shops at sp, , if nr id win on here and get all my stake back in shop. there is also a good chance sp could well be bigger on the day, of course it could well be shorter , thats where i have to consider the value eg .like now i reckon that bedtime story will be much bigger on the day than the 3/1 on here now ( its just my way of doing things occassionly To cover my lay on here )

surely just back it back on the day without the NR risk of an AP bet. I'm assuming you're thinking the SP bet(not being classed as antepost) would be NR in multis, fair enough.

to put it simply then, can you go into bookies on a saturday morning put a bet on that afternoon race and tell them i want it at sp not on the adverised price ,?

Of course you can, Ellis. You write out a slip with your selections on it and hand it over the counter. They will be more than happy not to have to look up the prices too.

That kind of reminds me of a great post Slippy Blue made years ago. I’m paraphrasing to a degree but it goes something like…. If a cashier pisses you off then go and write out an obscure 10 fold acca for future events. Ask for the price on all selections. Make the stake 10p. Continue as many times as you like!

We’ll I managed betting shops for nearly 20 years finishing in 2003, and took plenty of A/P sp bets, and if they don’t turn up you get your money back.
