Ive really noticed the difference in referee's interpretations of the laws of the game across Europe
Its russian roulette depending on what referee you get as to whether you get a decision Its most noticeable is with handball and the difference in interpretation between the Champions league and premier league. Even penalties given for handball in the SPL would never be given in the EPL We were lucky to get a referee who would give that as a penalty although I'm sure it wouldnt have been given in the EPL I suppose the argument that it would be a foul anywhere else on the pitch should be valid but we all know that the refs have a higher threshold for a foul in the penalty box which is wrong and a deviation of the laws of the game |

Dusty's post is spot on - the screaming and wailing (even from some English commentators) that it wasn't a penalty is ridiculous. It was a perfectly fair penalty decision, from a player who didn't know how to challenge within the game's rules.

gary lineker will be gutted if england win been talking england down and few with him
By:
If it had been given against England people would have been talking about it for years.
By:
It was never a penalty,no England player even claimed for a penalty, Kane catches the guy with his follow through.I watch some e Bundesliga and they give pens for ridiculous things ,they can thank them appointing German officials ,though how they missed Declan Rice and his wrestling moves at corners I don't know.

There’s a funny meme going around of Stephen Flynn scotch SNP baldy at an earlier match of scotchland’s
And it says poor Flynn has supported 6 sides at this tournament and yet to see a win |
By:
Very interesting but did Flynn think it was a penalty?
By:
Ridiculous penalty. Thankfully it went for us. It would’ve been talked about for years had it gone against us.
Personal interpretation of fouls is still my biggest gripe with VAR. |
By:
Who cares what Flynn thinks about owt?
The point is swings and roundabouts, except if your scotch and it’s just slides. |

I think Spain will score at least 4 tomorrow……tbf…..they seem to be the only team in the competition who are brave enough to go forward, instead of side to side looking petrified and then back to the keeper……which ain’t football entertaining imv
By:
it does not matter wether ya think its a penalty or not ,nothing anyone can do about it ..........its history now !
By:
All the snide remarks are hilarious
Objective is to win not look pretty Last two teams are the ones who do that the most effective, all the others thumb their arse while watching |
By:
Lochy tipping up Spain is the best thing I’ve heard today! England 1-0 must be nailed on now!
By:
i thought spain would win it before it started but i traded out a few days ago, they've played well and maybe they are due a bad one, conversely england have done it the other way, they might be coming good at the right time and i'm thinking that they may win the final simply because they can't keep being cr@p

By:
Plunge Kenbo…..I bet you don’t tho…tbf
By:
I can see it as can most tbf…rice to stones back to coco kicked out and back….petrified from the thought of silver imo
By:
I rarely back any team to win a game, Lochy. Definitely won’t be tomorrow either. This is one I’m happy to sit back and watch. Our second Euro final in succession!
You seethe away until then. It’s your last chance at hoping we fail. |
By:
I don’t want to spend the next 30 odd years with mute in hand listening to howl and squawk, even the evening news readers are howling ffs
Sorry but come on the technical team…… |
By:
if i were you id back england because either way you win
By:
England were good against Netherlands especially first half
Can’t say that for any of the other home nations, maybe they are saving themselves for the next comp pmsl |
By:
It sounds like there’s plenty of news coverage north of the border on it then. Do all Scots tune in to watch our matches? I think I’ve watched Scotland play three times in the last decade and that was all in the last month.

The problem with var refs, the on field ref seems scared that the var ref is somehow a better ref.
Never do you see a ref go to screen, then insists on same descision. The var ref should say, check screen to make sure if happy, but they seem to be saying,we think that’s a foul are you sure it wasn’t.so the on field ref pannicks, thinks he ll be dropped from games in future,so caves in to var. It might be better,to do away with var refs, and just get on field to check screen after big calls.but the on field is the only one allowed to make the descision, with no input from var. |

The Dutch were dreadful after they scored…..
Brave Spain with technical skill all round scoring for fun against side to side and back wondering what to do next …..not good tbf I doubt England will be brave enough to go at them early,it’s what Spain do for fun |
By:
I won’t play Kenbo, but I will play on Kinross to win the July cup at Newmarket….
By:
They pass side to side and back because there’s 8/9 defenders in front of them,
If Spain attack, there’ll be plently of room to pass through them. |
By:
A very good horse. I’ve got Vadream in an ew Lucky!

The old saying about making your own luck comes to mind
All this analysis by fans of teams not present misses the point entirely…you could have been boring or whatever else and been here, but you ain’t And the years of talking about a team could have been about your team but it ain’t Just like Scotland qualifiers, was all going to be so different, then England waltzed up and humiliated em, and then their tourney was already over. |
By:
Most English fans don’t want to see the back four passing it to each other, it pisses us off watching it. It’s even more annoying when the ball is at Pickford’s feet seconds after taking a corner. It didn’t happen anywhere near as much in the last game. They were also great in the first half.
By:
Teams pass side to side because they don’t have too many Gazza type to split defenders and make or score….
I’ve switched off many a game because of pass the parcel…. |
By:
Scotland are average dusty,we all know that it’s irrelevant…..
By:
All eyes will be on the young Spaniard tomorrow…..
By:
You’re far from average, Lochy, you’re fairly poor. Qatar are ranked above you in the world rankings! Plenty of other ‘poor’ teams are above you too.
By:
All good teams end up doing it,because opposition park bus.
Hence why pep likes keepers who play football, has they become part of the attack.as Barcelona and Real Madrid basically face bus Parker’s every week. As England do in qualifiers v Moldova and San Marino. The thread is about England pen,you need a bit of luck to win, this was their luck, normally the luck is against england |
By:
It’s not irrelevant, this is tournament football.
Everyone can talk about how swashbuckling they would have been if they had qualified or been in it at the end It’s about getting there. Few teams keep up from the start all the way through England are in this position because of how they played. |
By:
2 European finals on the trot and a WC semi
You can be as bored as you like, think anyone gives a 5hit? |
By:
..and Scotland arn’t average, they are lower championship in a world of internationals
By:
Not a good advertisement for football down south Kenbo in below average tbf….most of them play down there….
By:
The team has been lucky dusty tbf…..the overhead fluke saved them from an early flight …tbh
By:
Barring Robertson and the Englishman (Mctominay) you haven’t got any PL players at any of the top five clubs. They are mainly at Championship level teams. There’s a big gulf between the elite and those a league lower.
