Imo youresomean, he was looking for a penalty and made a meal of it. All the defender does is try to defend. The analysis there circling their feet, did they expect the defender to give him three yards of space?

i had agreed with shearers analysis that it was a stone wall penalty cos the left knee deffo clattered into the jocks calf witch propelled his leg forward..but after seeing this i never noticed him pulling the shirt.

Every single defeat is the refs or VAR's fault.
Lets be honest here, the contact was minimal. The scottish boy went down like a folding deck chair whilst holding Orban's shirt. I know these things get given as pens in the EPL all the time but do you really think a ref is going to make a quantum decision to eliminate the Hungarians on the back of that incident?
You all have to grow up.
Ref decisions go against you. It happens.
If you want to win a football match the idea is you score at least one more goal than your opponent. Not blame the officials when you cant manage that.

Watching that back again, it's evident (imo) that he leaves his leg outstretched across the defender's path, I mean look at the angle of his left leg. Absolutely spot on call by the ref who had a good view of it.

I find it hard to conclude anything other than he was looking for the penalty.

One thing I'm definitely saying, is the reason we are out is nothing to do with var and the referee, we just weren't good enough over the games pure and simple. If you look at social media there isn't a lot of posts defending the manager but loads slating his team selection and negative tactics.

Apparently he was off side anyway, so what happened is irrelevant but my personal view had he not been, after looking at the evidence, it was a penalty.
Armstrong clearly had a hand on the guys chest but it's only after he gets the knee on the back of the leg that knocks him down, that he then grabs his shirt, obviously to protect himself falling.

Good luck to England, who apart from the first 25 minutes of their first game,  have looked ponderous and poor.
Not what I would expect from a team with so many class players.
Plenty of time to turn that round though and fulfill the potential they have, if Southgate gets his team selection and tactics right.

The Lukaku disallowed goal for hand ball in the first game is the main reason I struggle to accept var. In real time he is purely running and the ball accidentally strikes his hand.
Slow everything down and it then looks like he controlled the ball with his outstretched arm.
Imo that should have been a goal and like many thinks, like tackles etc, looking in slow motion can make things look 100 times worse than they are.

Yes VAR is utter sh!te.
But it aint going away.
The thing about it is that you have to accept that these things are going to go against you.
Any fan, coach, player, has to live with this.
The only way to deal with it is to plan accordingly. Do extra work playing with ten men. Do extra work to strike back immediately when you go 1 down to a dodgy penalty.
Moaning about the ref is not going to win any games. Either now or in the future.

England are only slightly less sh1te than Scotland. The fact that they are one of the favs for the tournament is a sad indictment of the state os european football.

I personally think Scotland over-achieved by getting 1 point.

Clarke has done well to get us back qualifying for tournaments but it was all too slow and predictable at times
initially I thought it was a pen but Armstrong def put his leg into opponent and it was a tangle of arms and legs, shirt pulls
after that - seen them given though...

I thought it was a penalty real time but after watching it again in replays I don't think it is clear cut and thus I don't think var should be blamed.

I also thought that Armstrong was looking for a penalty rather than getting on with it and trying to put the ball in the net.

Well,we definitely overachieved..our only goalscorer was Macog!..Steve Clarke has always been a better manager when not under pressure...still England will get better and win the tournament and we'll beat them in the home internationals next year...

'if' he didnt pull the hungs shirt it was a 100% pen  (imo).
