Feel the same way tbh acey, bollocks done at Ascot with horses running terribly for no reason, Notable speech and Inspiral being 2 I fancied.

Tuesday a nightmare, Wednesday very good Thursday good Friday was very good and Saturday I left my brains in my bed when I arose. I enjoyed it overall despite the rollercoaster.

Pretty much even the first 4 days but did OK yesterday. Some really nice prices for place only. Some were as much as 40% of the win price which is a stark contrast to the 1/5th from bookmakers. Wathnan horses place only paid out really well with 11 horses in the first 3 and 18 unplaced. Several were double figure odds for a place.

Did ok on the win and place markets, probably about even. Done my bollox again on multiples and exotics etc. Loads of winners and placed horses, but none in the right combinations Cry

Thought it was a really good weeks racing though, definitely still the best betting meeting of the year imo. Royal Ascot is about the only meeting now that I can lose money on, but still enjoy.

What BoosterRooster said, although Saturday's away meetings were a big help after four red days.

Plenty of sickening results but River Tiber yesterday was off the scale ffs that was my Banker of the meeting.

'acey', I hope you're only wounded and live to fight another day. There were some sh1tty results. Most of the shorties had little form and could not be backed with confidence esp AOB.

Mr Appleby had a shocking Royal Ascot.

River Tiber has regressed, and needs a holiday or ply his trade elsewhere. I'd Haatem (7/2) but only in an acca given his 3lb concession to River Tiber and a new jockey; I steered clear of Inspiral - the bookie's horse.

Agree about Inspiral. The number of 5yo mares that win Group 1 races is vanishingly small. Enable was a freak. What had River Tiber done this year? Good third at the Curragh but has not won since June as a 2yo. I rarely look at 2yo form when assessing 3yos especially if they have improved or regressed on first run at 3. Rosallion and Haatem have improved a lot.

The worst stable form by a country mile was Roger Varian. Despite Charyn, he had a shocker with quite a few finishing tailed off. Andrew Balding didn't have a winner but apart from Kassaya, he didn't really have any good enough. Still a few placed at big odds.

Great viewing despite not a single bet placed aside from the away meetings , saw a couple of emerging potential superstars and watching Kyprios win was awesome.

Being a jumps man though i'll always prefer Cheltenham / Aintree / Punchestown    Happy

This year just didn't get excited by it . When I was working, used to take the afternoons off to watch it on TV. This year for the first time, I was quite happy to watch recordings if something else cropped up. Just too many calvalry charges on the straight course, be it 5f,6f, 7f or 8f. Like Hayden , I watched Cheltenham and Aintree avidly with few that I wasn't bothered about -e.g the bumpers and cross country. I wonder how ,any paid to be there everyday ? I remember when the Saturday was the Ascot Heath meeting without all the frippery.

Always sorry to hear another has done his goolies. It's usually just a matter of time for most on here. In my time in surgery I learnt the only way NOT do do one's goolies is never to lay one's goolies on the line! Good luck Mr Deucy.

England to do one a good turn? Mr Southgate and his mishmash army? Never! But, I'd be seduced if they are 'even' money; 1.4 is for the desperados.

England already qualified so you never know with Southgate. He might field a team made up of girl guides!

There's been so much backlash about their first two games, I was thinking surely they'll try to get the fans back on their side against supposedly inferior opponents.
By:
impossible123
When: 23 Jun 24 14:57
The main beef with the tactic of Mr Southgate is the team is setup to get an early go. Then will sit back and defend to the final whistle regardless of opposition.

The backlash is justified, just a wee-bit long coming. The media pundits have been very patient or hoodwinked by the incompetent managerial ability of Mr Southgate. Or unprofessional because of cronyism.

David Moyes came in for a lot of grief from the WH fans for not trying to push on from a 1-0 position.

I did Hayden. Barely had the energy to switch the telly on today but I wouldn't miss it for the world. At last we had summer weather and I had my best RA for many a year. Kyprios @ 3/1 helped. Auguste,  Illinios and Port Fairy. Few others. Plenty of fizz and picnics. My favourite 5 days of the year but I'll be on water, vegetables and fruit for a week ...and no  **** and booze!

It's a bit of a red herring about England sitting back on purpose, what's actually happening is the opposition are coming out and pressing when they go behind and our players can't keep the ball when pressed consequently we get pushed back.

The only period of dominance we've had so far was against Serbia when they let us have the ball, then when we scored, they came out and challenged us, similar thing with Denmark.

We'd be better off playing counter attack, of course with our players there is always an onus to try and control games but our players aren't capable of keeping the ball when challenged.
