I think Ben Keith and his Star sports company are a good thing for horse and greyhound racing.

At a time when other firms are closing betting shops he has expanded and opened more shops and also owns a bingo hall in Ireland also against the general trend.

He sponsors the Greyhound Derby at Towcester and also put a lot of money and effort in re-opening the Oxford greyhound track.

On the on course markets  he not only provides a means for high rollers to bet in thousands he also provides a hedging facility  for other bookmakers to reduce their risks.

Ben Keith started betting at southern greyhound tracks as a 'one man band' but now employs over 300 people in and around Hove.He has expanded his business interest and now invests in property and his commercial estate agents Star properties and various other ventures.

For those who may only know him from Star sports he once worked in a children's home in Peru as a volunteer and his Star company donates £20,000 every year to that home.

I know a trader who works for him and he reckons there are many thousand clients and although all accounts are monitored very very few are actually closed down he thinks mainly they are 'arbers'.

I do not have an account with them so cannot comment anything about that but often see him on Hove seafront out for a walk and overall think he is a good thing for our sport.

Good morning Ben

A Star sports shop opened near me about 2 years ago... Closed in March this year...
In that time had quite a few local punters try them, have a discrepancy over bet settling and go back to the other local bookies
I had a multi bet myself that fell foul of their maximum 1K BOG bonus... Would have copped 7K more if I'd put it on elsewhere

So, quite a different experience here

Reports 3 £100k bets taken at RA. Iy ou could get on with them to even 3 figure bets he would have us all betting with him. Does he restrict/close accounts?

Ben is one of the nicest kindest person i've ever met.
plenty of people wouldn't have a penny if it wasn't for his generosity.
We need people like him in the game and still he gets stick from jealous people.

He treats some genuine punters with contempt and makes unfounded suggestions....a bit like myself.

Ref taking bets. Ben says his opinion is on the man and not on the race. He must think Tabor And Bloom are numpties then. Of course he's having most, if not all of it back on here. I shouldn't think his business is profitable. His expenses must be astronomical and that's before the £594000 fine he received from the GC. I can't get a bet on in a betting shop within a 100 mile radius but i do often go in shops to read the RP. Every shop i go in is dead yet Ben wishes to open up more shops? Maybe he knows something i don't and i'm the numpty.

It's normally not easy backing horses around 13/8 at Ascot whether you are Tabor or not. Very competitive races. If Tabor or anyone else was making money backing at 6/1/8/1 etc account wouldn't last long imo.

I'm not ashamed to say the high street betting shops were my 5th social services. They were great for chilling out and having a hot chocolate after work/a day off with betting friends one would not invite home or be too friendly with. The premises were always well-heated. One could even enjoy a proper takeaway in peace and quiet just before the start of the evening meetings. The clients then were informative and sociable; no noise or thumping of fobt machines.

The above was nearly 25 years ago.

I think its what 99% of all on course bookmakers do now, the days of having an opinion are long gone, hence 20 oncourse books all showing the same prices. coincidence ?

everywhere leopard.  obviously.  difference is the rest of them aren't daft enough to agree to a youtube interview and admit they "cherry pick" their clients.

if we were playing by Australian rules, which we clearly should be and questions should be asked why the fk we aren't, Starsports and the rest of them would -

Be unable to refuse to accept a fixed odds bet.
Be unable to close a person’s account.
Be unable to refuse to open a person’s account.
Be unable to place any restrictions on a person’s account.
Be unable to refuse to lay a fixed odds bet to any person when those fixed odds are publicly displayed.
Be unable to lay lesser odds to a person than those publicly displayed.
Perform any other act or refuse to do an act in order to avoid these provisions.

Wagering operators are required to lay the odds displayed for fixed odds bets to the specified limits.

If Starsports, or the rest of them, don't like having to lay the odds displayed - to everyone, ie not mugs only SadSad - to the specified limits, they would of course be completely free to fk right off.
