1) Kempton all-weather (how many dreams die on that ridiculous run in, I call it the bookies' golden furlong) 2) Lingfield all-weather (that f***cking turn in) 3) Windsor (PUNTERS' GRAVEYARD, or at least graveyard of the formbook) 4) Leicester (Don't ever recall having a winner there) 5) Nottingham (Always provokes a yawn and preparation for feeling a bit cheated) 6) Chelmsford (I nearly had a 30 grand acca up on three horses when it was Great Leighs; now I just feel pissed about by it most of the time) 7) Southwell all-weather (you can find winners but it's all a bit beige) 8) Aintree (the fences are repellent tricks on horses) 9) Bath (I like the idea of Bath but it's a bit of a nonsense for punters) 10) Stratford (the heart sinks)
A good list and I agree with most of it - especially Kempton AW at No.1 and Windsor - shocking punting track.
Would definitely have Newmarket on there too.

strange way to rate tracks. Bottom of my list would be Fakenham. Everything about it is bad for jumping horses. Tight turns, several laps for staying races, low class races on the whole. Bottom on the flat would be Lingfield turf. Flat draw bias is extreme, the downhill unbalances horses and it is very heavy going on most jump meetings. Top would be Newbury flat and jumps. Very fair, attracts good horses but recent flat meetings on soft have had more draw bias than is desirable. I suppose my betting choices are not governed by form apart from trainer and owner stats.

I tend to judge tracks on how they treat their customers rather than whether I win there. For that reason the hospitality plagued chester with its nazi guards and petty rules is the worst I have ever been to. The only place where they build a mid track village so you can't see the racing unless you are high up, then they charge you more for being high up. My advice, watch from the wall outside and take a phone for betfair.

Many years ago, me and a mate used to go to Windsor on most Monday evenings. We'd get in free for the last race, which in those days was the maiden and we'd back the favourite, which won more often than not. On the way home we'd stop off at the Bells of Ouzeley for a few pints by the river. I have fond memories of those summer evenings and Windsor will always be a favourite.

Newbury or Goodwood for decent racing and a great day out

For me, this list is purely about the track layout and nature of the course, not the facilities nor how well or badly i have done there.
1. Chester for obvious reasons 2. Newmarket. Famously "miles and miles of bugger-all" as once described 3. Goodwood. Idiotic layout as beautiful as it is. "Going down" is as far as the race itself 4. Chepstow flat - godawful undulations. Flat racing should be that - flat 5. Epsom - running around the side of a hill. Ditto regards "flat" racing 6. Fakenham - too small 7. Catterick - ditto 8. Lingfield allweather - terrible bend impossible to win from the front 9. Carlisle flat. Love it for NH but awful for flat racing 10. Brighton
I like round tracks like Ripon or Thirsk or Kempton where you can follow the race with eyes or binoculars. But not too tight and round like Catterick or Chester or Fakenham.
