Might be there myself, gotta couple of things to do this morning

If you're going by train, there's a pub right next to the station that is popular both before and after racing
If you're driving, I always park in the middle of the track and exit via the little road that leads out to an exit by the home turn bend... Saves a lot of time stuck in traffic

Lovely track, have a nice day

Morning Reg.
Travelling down by train, so will have a sharpener in the pub by the station.
Have a good day!

Tricky but fascinating card at NA.

Cobden has  a 25% strike rate at the ground. Would be surprised to see a few big priced winners go in.

Have a great day Saxon and I hope the weather is kind to you.

You can sit outside at the pub by the station, which is good, because the sun always shines at Newton Abbot.

It's a pleasant enough walk to the course. Leave the pub and walk along Queen Street, away from the station, past the sewing machine shop. On the left you'll see what used to be the Queen's Hotel, where the faces used to gather in the bar on the first Saturday in August to wish each other a Happy New Year. Turn right at the War memorial. Just before the memorial, on your left, you'll see the barber's where Eddie Fremantle used to get his hair cut, back when he followed jump racing. The attractions of that barber's were that it was cheap, and the barber himself got the haircut done in about two minutes.

Once you've turned right at the memorial, follow the road round as it bears left till you get to the roundabout. Turn right there, and you're nearly at the course. You'll know you're there when you see the half a dozen miserable specimens standing outside demanding a ban on horse racing. Give them a great big cheery greeting, waving your binoculars at them, and give thanks that you're there, going racing at Newton Abbot, on a day like this.

While you're waiting for the horses to enter the parade ring, enjoy the free entertainment from the swallows and house martins swooping over the racecourse stables.

Oh, and the ice cream vans are about the cheapest ones among the south of England courses - a decent-sized single cone is still £2.50.

See you there!

If you have time, you must visit the Cider Bar in East Street. Not far to walk to:

https://pubheritage.camra.org.uk/pubs/8074

This is a national treasure – one only four cider houses left in the UK. It’s a very ordinary-looking stuccoed building close to the town centre of Newton Abbot. It used to be owned by cider-makers Whiteways of Whimple and cider was stillaged in the heart of the pub in 54-gallon hogsheads as old photographs on the walls will show. Customers wanting off-sales service would use the little hatch, now concealed behind doors to the right of the main entrance: it can also clearly be seen internally. Then in 1962 came a new-fangled bar counter to create a bit more order and separation of customers from the storage area. This was on the right-hand side of the building. Then in 1984 a new owner, Richard Knibbs took over and the current layout was adopted. The counter of 1962 was moved and survives to this day with its extraordinary, bulgy barrel-shaped slats.

Be too late now, but the beer guide has the Dartmouth Inn on East Street, the Richard |Hopkins on Queen Street, and the Maltings Taphouse & Bottle Shop on Teign Road. I'm sure screaming can comment later for future reference.
