I rarely miss a meeting at Donny and can't say I have noticed your observation.
But, if they stay on the inside on the round course you do sometimes see horses having trouble coming from behind if they are hemmed in on the rails. This season, though, they have tended to swing to the middle off the last bend.
I will be looking out more for what you have observed in the future.

Oh no The Knight ....i haven't observed this...this was said by a prominent Racing Post - RFO tipster
I love betting at Donny on the flat and i would say it's completely the opposite...i would have to think twice/three times before backing a front runner on the round course and only then if i thought it was gonna get an easy in front.

And I would agree with that. Flat or Jumps, it is a tough course to make all the running on.
Bar Sandown, I tend to think that any track which has a long run-in is tough for runners - which is common sense really!

Thanks for that wonderso....an interesting and informative video although a hard watch with Thompson constantly interjecting all the time ....Hugh Taylor must have the patience of a saint not telling him to shut his trap
I see Doncaster is by far the worst of all tracks for front runners making all ....on another level to the vast majority of tracks
Someone should show this video to Richard Birch...another one of his statements that are so wide of the mark ( smh )

I concur think the very very unlucky ride on Sisterandbrother perfectly illustrates your hypothesis grey still scratching my head on that one just watch the race again Pete was very very unlucky.

An interesting topic and some informative/interesting links from both wondersobright & askjack.
So much so, that I had to check the date of the opening post, to be sure this wasn't a thread from 10 years ago!
Good stuff. I know it's not very scientific (the way HT has compiled his stats and there are a myriad of variables to take into account) but a few surprises for me both towards the top and the bottom of his list of courses.
I just don't have time to keep my data up to date any more - but the make-up of the runners in a handicap would have always been my key stat i.e. Ratio of "forward" horses to ratio of "hold-up" horses in a race - looking for either of those two "run styles" to be in a very small minority (especially at 5f & 6f but up to a mile). Not very scientific either - but probably still a route to profit if you have time to put in the work. My issue would be that it turns you into Kevin Pullein - you record shed loads of data, put in hours and hours of work and end up in the vast majority of races concluding - "no bet" !
