The horse looked unrideable, basically beaten after 100 yards. In sharp contrast to looking completely straightforward at Newmarket when at 10/1 she smashed up the heavily backed favourite. It just summs up racing at the moment. No chance unless you land the occasional dart. The majority of Group and listed races this season have gone to dart throws.

horse wouldnt have won but once in straight surely any jock takes it inside of the other horses if nothing else would stop it hanging another 40 yds on to rail,

Just got home and watched the replay. Pleased to read some knowledgeable comments. No jockey riding today or who has ever ridden, would have won on that horse today.

Young promising jockey Kieran Shoemark, who has been tipped to one day go on and be British flat racing champion jockey after just being pipped for the Apprentice jockey title last year, could be facing some time on the sidelines after failing a drugs test.
The 22 year old Englishman has now been of the track since the end of November and was replaced on his three rides he had booked at Kempton last Thursday. Currently the young rider has been placed under an interim suspension running from Friday 7th December to Friday 28th December under the BHA medical Protocols. The failed drug test which is believed to have been the banned Class A substance of Cocaine comes just three months after Shoemark suffered a terrible injury when riding at Lingfield where he punctured his lung and broke six ribs. Since coming back to action after that fall he has ridden for many different trainers but one of his long time backers is the esteemed trainer Roger Charlton and Shoemark went on to recently ride a winner in the Group 3 Bengough Stakes on board Projection at Ascot. Kieran Shoemark's best moments in his career have come through Charlton giving the youngster a chance to ride and last year he also got a Royal Ascot winner for the trainer on board the Godolphin owned Atty Persse when he landed the King George V Stakes. It's nothing to do with the jockey, the filly has clearly bounced to the moon off a huge effort just ten days ago when making her reappearance.
What I didn't get when Gosden was being asked about the quick turnaround, he said that there was only limited opportunity to run in a trial. Why, is it compulsory to run in trial? Why not just refill the tank and go straight to France or supplement for the Oaks? |

name a horse that pulled or hung under Lester in a big race..chalk and cheese jockeys...the standard of jockeyship on the flat at an all time low in my fifty years of following it so stop making excuses for mediocrity

What nobody has mentioned is how often he rides these horses at home and whether the horses are taking a dislike to him. I am convinced that something is happening in the yard or on the gallops to cause so many of Gosden's horses to misbehave this season. Refusing at the stalls, unseating leaving the stalls, hanging all over the place. It is not just about ability of horse or rider, it is about preparation. If Havlin is riding winners for Gosden and Shoemark is riding winners for other trainers, there has to be a reason.

Original poster is wrong. She was using lots of energy to the start, warm day, and she looked wound up before the race. Too Free during the race. Not much the jockey could do, even Ryan Moore would have trouble settling a free horse like that. Came with a challenge and emptied out.

Remember the corner at York, you must get round there well. If you think you have a "Good Thing" at York, may I suggest you think again!

10 day break .....it may have looked easy at newmarket but most need a break between races and 10 days not ideal imo. would any other jockey have made a difference ? possibly got a bit closer if they had knocked the fook out of her but wouldna been placed anyhow and then we would have those moaning why give the horse a harder race than needed ,jockey no way to blame imo.

Yes, silly to blame the jockey here.
But, surely John Gosden would have seen something in the filly to indicate she had not recovered enough from the Newmarket run? In the old days, when a short priced favourite with such good form ran so badly there would be cries of 'horse has been got at'. Doesn't seem to happen so much now but I do wonder given how the filly actually behaved during the race? (And, no, I did not back it. I backed the third for 3 places and was probably a bit lucky to draw, as that filly seems to want about 2 miles plus!!!!) |
