What operating system does your new laptop have? Perhaps you bought a laptop that is in windows s mode. This prevents the downloading of apps from outside of the MS store ecosystem. What does it say when you click on this link? https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/windows/switching-out-of-s-mode-in-windows-4f56d9be-99ec-6983-119f-031bfb28a307#WindowsVersion=Windows_11.
Click on that link then click on "switch out of s mode", then click 'open'. What does it say then?

Well, yes, rico. But I don't want to have to go through what gerard is going through right now.
That's only because he bought a laptop with a closed operating system. The s-mode. Just make sure you avoid that and you'll be fine.

Used laptops and desktops for years now and until reading this thread had never heard of Windows S and had to look it up.Windows 10 in S mode is a version of Windows 10 that's streamlined for security and performance, while providing a familiar Windows experience. To increase security, it allows only apps from Microsoft Store, and requires Microsoft Edge for safe browsing. How long has this been going on?
About 6 years. MS response to closed eco system OS like Google ChromeOS.
