There’s a few hooked on the machines in my local shop. They can do their bollox without having to stake £2 a spin on the games. Probably start off at 50p a spin. Up it to a £1, then chase on the £2 a spin. One regular often loses £800 a day. Doesn’t take him long.

Instead of £100 every 20 secs on low volatility, you're now stuck with £2 every 5 secs with very high volatility. That's still £24 or £1440 per hour. I've watched people pumping in several hundred in half an hour with hardly any return.

They are designed to be addictive.  It's boredom that drives people to them.  £2 a spin, 10 spins a minute, 10% rake is £120 an hour if constantly used.

It's only addictive to idiots. The 10% margin is skewed by the unprobable jackpot and huge wins. In my brief experience the average session runs at -35% roi by my estimate. Just feels like throwing money down a fire pit. It goes like -2 -2 -2 -2 +2.5 -2 -2 +3 -2 -2 -2 -2, what's the fun in that? Hoping for that +2000 hit? You'd have better chances backing over 6.5 in a man city game.

Addiction is not confined to idiots, but determined by our biological (set) configuration. We are all addicted to something eg me = food (peanuts); slight allergy (too sugary food including chocolates)

But, thank-goodness no attraction for fobts; 'billie' stopped my fobt promo as I converted any winning into horses.

Not really sure how you can moan about the size/amount of bets when not being prepared to take a larger bet without making the punter jump through hoops. Mostly self inflicted by the Bookmakers themselves I guess.
