Horse was already facing the wrong way before the camera angle changed, so he must have known.

deemed a runner. No question of protecting the starter there then. Full and independent thorough enquiry, in which we all have confidence.....!

the stewards interviewed the starter and after a few glasses of port decided that there was no case to answer as he'd just had a text from his wife asking what time he'd like his dinner and was naturally distracted,

they also added they'd like to apologise to all the backers of maasai mara that lost their money and to all of the others who backed horses in the race that had to wait half an hour for a settlement whilst they had a drink or two, but whilst they'd like to apologise they can't be bothered

Deemed a runner, now that is stupid. The starter made a mistake but you have to think that he didn't see the horse wrong way around but no mitigation for stewards.

Agreed Brian

The stewards are probably telling the joke now

Starter did you see the front end of the arse - No Sir

Did you see the rear end of the arse - No Sir

Then you must be No End Of An Arse

theyve said fook connections and relying on bookies to cover their mistake by returning stakes and treating it as a NR

when they draw up new rules do you think anyone asks how it will look to punters especially new people going racing, when they see a stalls horse as a nr and a jumps horse that clearly didn't line up being treated differently?

the rules need updating if they want to attract punters.

Chief Steward Steve Drowne was very dismissive of explaining the rule to the masses, they wouldn't understand,

An enquiry was held into the start of this race and the circumstances surrounding MAASAI MARA facing the wrong way when the start was effected and subsequently not jumping off. The Starter and Jack Tudor, the rider of MAASAI MARA, were interviewed and shown a recording of the start. Having heard their evidence and viewed footage of the incident, a report was forwarded to the Head Office of the British Horseracing Authority.

He said he had to be deemed to be a runner because they were under orders but they can be deemed non runners if they disadvantaged through no fault of the horse/jockey when the race starts on the flat.

No wonder the masses wont understand!
