Not pretending Moore is on a par with Piggott, AND recognising the change from four days to five, but a little more perspective!. Lester took 41 years to ride 116 RA winners, Ryan has ridden 82 in 16 years. Not too shabby! Percentage of RA wins to RA rides for each would be interesting.

Excellent point blackbarn , don't consider myself qualified to comment on jockey comparisons but find it hard to imagine there's been a better Ascot jockey than Ryan when you watch him ride that Ascot finish be it tactically or just power riding , these debates will normally never influence anyone to change their mind though as nostalgia usually wins the day.
Good luck today

I haven't done a full check, but in year 16 of Piggott's Royal Ascot career, 1967, he had 15 rides; Moore will have 34 this year (if all today's and tomorrow's booked rides run). Apart from it being a 4-day meeting throughout Piggott's career, there were only 6 races a day then, and some of the handicaps wouldn't have given him much chance of getting a mount, eg in the 1967 Hunt Cup, only one horse carried more than 8-4, whereas he would have ridden at 8-5/8-6. Also he only rode 3 RA winners in the last 8 of those 41 years, being either retired, or a returned geriatric (so a blank from '86 to '90 when retired, and 1 in each of 91, 92, 93).
