what kind of cash sums are you paying over the PO counter and how often ?
By:

I can only pay into my co-op account by the post office as there is not a branch in Aberdeen

that's now even worse

post office - co-op - barclays - betfair - barclays.

It's an absolute miracle that you haven't been flagged before now.

Or let me put it another way. I can deposit 5k into BF every day. Not something I do but I can do it. Whether that technique would last long is another matter.

It's not Betfair the thread is about.  If you've been paying hundreds/thousands in cash over a PO counter....

Well he's certainly got the attention he craves with this one.

This amount exceeds your maximum daily budget. You may deposit between £5.00 and £5,000.00 or contact us to discuss.

As that stands, if I wanted to I could deposit 35k per week. Now reduced to 400 per week from the 1st of July. That said, I've just opened a Nationwide account.

No idea how they operate but will find out soon enough.

Barclays allow you to block/limit payments to gambling companies but I can't find anything online that suggests it's not your decision.

Missed this one ss. This was Barclays decision, due to money laundering. Nothing to do with gambling companies.

so now you tell us you a bit of laundering is allowed but not a heavy load Laugh
By:

Their words, not mine. As I said if I was suspected I wouldn't be allowed to deposit and my account would be closed.

Christ, you are thick.

i'm sure many are wondering if you had any other post today?

perhaps a letter from the Dr re your request for viagra, or maybe you got some junk mail you could run through for us, such as a pizza menu or a sale leaflet for DFS which would be fascinating for the forum?

adge, I see, maybe that could be problematic if it's been moved from bank to bookie to building society etc, money laundering or else it indicates a problem, much like betting with credit cards used to be.

Dear Stewarty

We at Barclays have become increasing concerned about
your deposits to betfair.Although betfair have stated
that you are a master of aftertiming, sadly your p&l
does not confirm this. Therefore we unfortunately taken
the decision to put restrictions upon your account before
the inevitable happens and you go kapoot.
We have noticed you occasionally become obstreperous
which we know is brought on by your obsession with the
Betfair forums Rico Flapsadangling.

Got the dreaded letter...:(

As you use your account to pay in cash, we wanted to let you know fr‌om ‌1 July 2024, we’re introducing a maximum £20,000 cash limit you can pay into your personal accounts each year. This will restart each January.

If you have more than one personal account with us, this means the total amount of cash you can pay in across all of them is £20,000, including any children’s savings accounts.

This doesn’t include cash you’ll pay into any business current account you might have.

If you run a business but don’t have a separate account for it and need a higher cash deposit limit, search ‘Barclays business banking’ to find out more about our business accounts. It’s important to keep your business and personal accounts separate.
Why we’re doing this

The National Crime Agency estimates that over £35 billion has been laundered in the UK. Introducing our cash deposit limit will help us fight financial crime.
For joint accounts

Any cash paid into your personal joint account counts towards the yearly cash deposit limit for each account holder.

Here’s an example of how the limit would work if you have a joint account and a sole account with us:

If you or the person you’re sharing your account with pay £16,000 cash into your joint account, you’ll both have £4,000 cash remaining to pay into your joint or sole account for the rest of the year

Any cash you pay into your sole accounts will only count towards your own cash deposit limit and won’t affect the limit for anyone you share a joint account with.
Post Office limits

There’s already a £10,000 cash deposit limit at the Post Office, which will still apply. Any cash you pay in at Post Office branches fr‌om ‌1 January 2024 will also count towards your yearly cash deposit limit of £20,000.

This means fr‌om ‌1 January 2024, you could pay in £10,000 at Post Offices and fr‌om ‌1 July 2024, up to £10,000 in our branches each year

Or you could pay in all £20,000 in our branches, but then nothing at a Post Office.
How your cash deposits count towards your limit

When you pay in cash at one of our branch counters or self-service devices, it’ll count towards your overall cash deposit limit.

When you pay in cash at a Post Office, it’ll count towards both your overall limit and your Post Office limit.

We’ll also let you know when you’re near your limit. For help setting up notifications, search ‘Barclays free alerts’.
If you need help

To see other ways to receive money into your accounts, search ‘Barclays pay in cash’.

If you need more help, search ‘Barclays contact us’ to see how you can get in touch.

This is a Barclays-wide thing, not just for gamblers. https://www.barclays.co.uk/help/payments/how-do-i-pay-cash-in-at-branches

Presumably to prevent money laundering, but mightily inconvenient if you need to legitimately move a lot of cash around for some reason.

See, it's all for your own good, they're looking after you, and it's absolutely nothing to do with tip-toeing towards a cashless society and control through digital currencies.

Anti-money laundering and anti-tax evasion. Of course, you'd spend a lot of that £20,000 driving around looking for a bank branch that is still open. Grin

be nice if i could take a photo of a few fifty pound notes and upload them to my account as per cheques on the basis my nearest branch is an hr away, no idea why they won't do it

Even main post offices are now closing. If you are lucky you will be left with a PO counter in WHSmiths.
