Taking the question seriously (not sure if I should but hey-ho), laying often brings a much bigger liability than backing. It can give great winning runs, but when you get beaten it hits much harder.
You can win much bigger amounts rapidly if backing accurately. Laying is a very slow game to play, and even many days winning can then be suddenly followed with a crash that wipes out banks.
Just a few points.

Lady Wingalong yesterday "Last of 13 in handicap at Thurles (8f, soft, 80/1). Off 6 months. Makes polytrack debut. First run for yard after leaving Edmond Kent. Not easy to make a case for." Clearly a clown horse ........ and a drifter 10/1 -18/1 .

Don't lay longshots with unknown factors like that. Lay those that are proven to be useless. Every day there are shots that drift from 15 to 150 because they're useless.

And I disagree that laying is a very slow game, it's only true in the short term, i.e. a few days to a few weeks. But when you look at the average monthly profits, it's no different from backing. A backer will hit a 20/1 then lose 15 in a row. A layer will win 20 times then lose 15 on one lay.

In terms of it being 'slow' - to clarify what I meant is that it is almost impossible to make very large wins rapidly - e.g. in a single race, whereas that can happen in backing.
You have to be happy with making steady smaller profits, hence the slow description. Yes, of course ultimately, in a longer term view it is no different for profits than backing, if we assume we are equally good at both backing and laying.
But, perception is a clever little beast in gambling. Laying will certainly 'feel' like a very slow game in making decent earnings.
