Saw this new website being talked about on ATR this afternoon.

https://horsepwr.co.uk

"Welcome to HorsePWR, British racing’s hub dedicated to the Thoroughbred racehorse, the ultimate equine athlete."

A great idea I think ......just thought I'd let you all know about it.Happy

Sometimes it's mostly about the horse

Sometimes it's mostly about the rider

There's no exact science in this sport of ours just opinions full of subjectivity.

One thing that's certain is that none of us know what it's mostly about BEFORE the race is run.

Nice. Cool

I wonder how it's funded?

Oh dear Hayden, that obviously went whoooooosh!! Nevermind.

Probably cost hundreds of thousands to set up a basic website which could have been set up in a day by an average computer buff.

Useless information automatically springs to mind.

... I suppose it keeps a few people in a job but who is it actually targeted at and what is the purpose of it?

Sorry, but I just don`t get it.

Sorry layemail eating my tea so not read link , apologies for the idiotic & irrelevant response.

Ah that explains it Hayden....as rarely have I read an " idiotic & irrelevant response." by you.

Just over a week before the Grand National I think is timely for the launch. I will no longer have to explain for example, to those wanting to hand me a leaflet about how cruel the sport is as I enter the racecourse. Instead I'll just give them the website address. The antis, the ignorant, the know it alls, the media et al, will now be able to "educate" themselves properly (hopefully), and maybe change their opinion about the sport.
Report layemall April 4, 2024 6:43 PM BST
Btw, I usually finish off my explanation with something like, why don't you go and and do something useful.... get some new leaflets printed up, and stand outside a halal slaughterhouse and dish them out Wink

The need for the website was summed up really well on the Morning Line this morning by Gabi Whitfield, the Head of Welfare Communications for Great British Racing. As Chapman rightly pointed out though, it is reactive and a shame that this wasn't done years ago.
However, accentuating the positive and eliminating the negative, it's a case of better late than never. Happy

Welfare is an interesting side topic of course for horse racing.

One odd fact, that is never mentioned by all the anti-racing brigade (not this website of course), is that the animals would not even exist without racing.

I wonder what they think of that, though likely they don't do much actual thinking at all...
Report sageform April 6, 2024 2:51 PM BST
So long as people are allowed to ride horses than some will exist but not nearly as many. The others will probably be exported to countries that still have racing and those that eat horse meat.
