Racing at Warwick will not go ahead on Thursday after an unexpected downpour turned the track unraceable overnight.
The ground is waterlogged in places following 16mm of rain ahead of the jumps card, a significant increase from the 3mm initially expected.
With the track unable to cope with the major change in forecast, clerk of the course Tom Ryall was forced to call off the meeting shortly after 7am.
"We were confident enough to not call an inspection as all the forecasts said the same, we were looking at only a maximum of three millimetres, and as little as one," Ryall said.
"We've come in this morning to see 16 millimetres in the jug, so the heavy rain started about 1am and went right through the night. It's still raining now, and what was heavy ground is just saturated and waterlogged in places. It'll continue until mid-morning, so even with a slightly later start it's go no chance of improving.
"It's so frustrating, we walked the track three times yesterday and we were fairly happy with what we were seeing forecast. It's just disappointing for everyone, it kind of sums up our season a bit as we've been stop-start and we always seem to get the worst of the weather. We race until May, so hopefully we can have a good end to the season."
That’s good news the more the better as last time we lost a batch of national hunt fixtures when it got back to normal we got some decent racing and field sizes unlike the utter garbage we get at the moment.
