in my opinion...

far too much waterlogging going on (even Musselburgh was cancelled the other day and that normally drains very well)...

it also saves all this watering nonsense in the middle of the 'summer' when nobody really knows what the hell is going on with the ground...

all they have to do is paint it green and nobody will know the difference...

the old argument of all weather racing being associated with low grade stuff is for the birds imv...

started when all that 'banded' rubbish was going on...

and who wants flat racing on HEAVY ground anyway ?

makes perfect sense to me...

get on with it before we are sat here in the Spring every year having to re-schedule meetings to 'synthetic' tracks due to there being loads of abandonments...

obviously it won't happen coz the UK isn't a forward thinking place unfortunately...

shame that.

oh i'm fully aware of that aceform...

they'd rather see young horses needing oxygen masks after races coz the heavy ground has exhausted them so much...

i said years ago synthetic/all weather was the way forward and it was poo poo'd then...

i expect no different now...

if Catterick hadn't survived an inspection today (and the ground will obviously be desperate) we'd all be sat here watching Loose Women and A Place In The Sun all afternoon...

i could put up with the latter but the former would send me over the edge tbh.

I have a feeling one poster will be chirping up in agreement, but I am not so sure you are being serious.

Abandonments is probably the only way to reduce the fixture list so is it really a problem?

I couldn't care less about the Flat, but it would make some sense to push the grass start back a few weeks.

Unfortunately, wet/windy/mild weather is likely to be the norm from now on.

I think Catterick was mentioned regarding AW hibb….I tend to agree apart from the top tracks that would be a no no…

i am being serious differentdrum...

i mean look at Nottingham today for example...

i'm not 100% sure but there must be a chance they could actually have a turf track AND a synthetic track...

i know they have an 'inner' track but not 100% sure if they could fit both in but i'd say there is a fair chance they could...

that way they would have the ability to switch to the synthetic track if the turf track is waterlogged...

that's a good option for tracks with the space to do so imv...

obviously like everything else the funding would be an issue...

but i think 'waterlogging' is going nowhere fast and it ain't good imv.

you say that aceform but Newmarket could easily have a synthetic track on the Rowley Mile at least...

as well as a turf one if that's what the 'purists' want.

these backend 2yo Newmarket maidens over 1m on bad ground...

horrible viewing when the ground is bad/chopped up imv.

Hamilton would be perfect for a synthetic track aceform...

with the rainfall they get i'm guessing they won't get every turf fixture on this year ?

Of course yo're right Hibby. Reliable and regular racing is paramount to the sport being successful.
By:

thank you honcho...

also makes perfect sense for the tracks...

abandonments must be a hell of a pain for them imv.

Agree with both hibby and honcho for the future of Racing.

it's just common sense if you ask me...

but when does that ever prevail ?
By:

When: 03 Apr 24 09:57
Really bad for owners as well. Getting a horse ready for a run is expensive and contrary to the 'we want less racing' brigades constant nonsense, its hard to find another race for a horse after an abandonment particularly 0-70 types.

correct honcho...

they'd rather have Group 1 winners on HEAVY ground aceform ?

surely not imv.

Oh they are bred for grass racing hibb….apart from dirt racing in America….

Quite a few top trainers refer it to sand racing….

By:

so all the Coolmore/Godolphin stock couldn't be good horses on synthetic surfaces aceform ?

don't agree with that at all...

plenty of their horses run at Dundalk/Kempton/Wolves etc...

if i was an owner and i had the choice of HEAVY ground at Gowran Park or a nice surface at Dundalk i know which one i'd run a well bred 2yo at.
By:

and another angle aceform...

look at the non runners at Catterick...

wait till racing starts and you can add in a few more no doubt...

i very much doubt that would happen if the surface was a synthetic one...

throws the races up in the air from a punting angle which ain't a good thing imv.

They should have a couple in every region. Small trainers that can't afford decent gallops can use them. They could be used to put on more armature/permit type events which would support grass roots racing.

By:

When: 03 Apr 24 10:28
no it wasn't aceform...

she won at Kempton on their synthetic surface...

the bottom line is the vast majority of trainers would be happy to run their horses on a synthetic surface (i'm not suggesting american dirt btw altho i think Southwell's original synthetic track was a good alternative)...

do you think top horses don't train on synthetic surfaces from time to time ?
By:

are you telling me APOB would refuse to run COT on the synthetic track if the turf track was waterlogged / heavy ?
