Is it something to be proud of, particularly as they could offer £5 a day at the Cheltenham Festival?

When you see bookmaker offer of any sort it the reaction really depends on whether your glass is half full or empty.

I'd rather think of all the bookmakers who don't offer a free quid to the masses and know that Hills are offering a quid more than them.

Laddie is offering a £5 free for a £5 GN bet. But, laddie is not nrnb (yet).
Report Hayden April 2, 2024 3:12 PM BST
That's fair enough impossible but not a like for like offer as Hills is stake free.

Matching a fiver sounds ok at a glance but as the over round will probably be around 200% anyway they're not giving a lot away as first seems , my advice to anyone using this at the moment is take SP.

100% Correct Hulk about all internet betting companies

For every "Safe gambling" email - 25 emails promoting slot machines and casinos.

Number 1 aim of them all is to hook eejits on machines.

Hypocrites the lot of them.
Report impossible123 April 2, 2024 8:32 PM BST
This freebie is clearly intended to entice prospective customers onto their website in particular the fobt; the bookies' primary objective is the money-spinner fobt where addiction and profits are significantly higher and assured, and playing time is 24/7 with no research or effort necessary and in the comfort of one's home.

I firmly believe a ban on all forms of betting/gaming advertisement including the Grand National and Derby on terrestrial tv, computer and mobile phones is an absolute must.

The adverts by individuals of no self-respect eg Sir AP McCoy and Mr Chamberlin promoting betting/gaming for bookmakers whilst at the same time presenting horseracing on terrestrial tv regularly is utterly repulsive and disrespectful to the families of problem gamblers and fobt addicts.

As such, I firmly believe these individuals have no place presenting on terrestrial tv.
Report Hayden April 2, 2024 8:45 PM BST
Interesting how addiction regarding machines is always referred to , if you asked 100 horse racing punters from this forum how many do you think would be able to stop playing on the horses.
Report hulk23 April 2, 2024 10:03 PM BST

I'd been banned by 'billie' and 'laddie' daily free spin on a wheel because every time I won I put it on horseracing; for a period I won every day from 'billie' - then nothing. This is ****/fixed - it's not random.

Believe it or not, I won £100 (cash) from 'laddie' on their weekly 5 "randomly" select winners. I withdrew £90 and spent the remainder on ante horsey bets.

Quiz question.

What will prove the biggest outlay to WH.

(a) Total cost of £1 FREE bets retrieved + any winnings on so called FREE bet

or

(b) Total cost to advertise this ridiculous offer on Television (Terrestrial and Satellite and Internet) + total fees paid to their racing Ambassadors who are fronting this promotion.

Report themightymac April 3, 2024 11:08 PM BST
... on hindsight, perhaps there are legal issues limiting betting companies to certain offers advertised.
Report impossible123 April 3, 2024 11:39 PM BST
A radical approach to licensing, funding and sponsorship of horseracing is an absolute must going forward. Until these are resolved horseracing in the UK will remain in limbo and decline.

The no self-respect individuals presenting on terrestrial tv on horseracing and promoting betting/gaming for bookies cannot be allowed to carry on. This is a direct conflict of interest. And, given the escalation of problem gamblers and fobt addicts to society, health and legal services these individuals eg Sir AP McCoy and Mr Chamberlin cannot be allowed presenting horseracing on tv screen; Ms Cumani and Ms Plunkett do not, neither are Luke and Jason.

Report impossible123 April 4, 2024 1:48 PM BST
With inflation £1 free bet is not more than 4/5p. This is a subliminal promotion. It's not to promote the Grand National, but an inducement to recruit fobt players. This £1 free bet offer will probably cost no more than £1 per every £100 accepted.

Promotion (free bet) = fobt inducement = stress on NHS, law and enforcement services.
Report themightymac April 4, 2024 3:33 PM BST

No worthwhile freebie from bookies? The one from 'billie' eg a player's 1 shot on target was much of a muchness.
