As it happens Adam might not have done all that well financially from the series, having lunch one day in 1977 when he was singing live, the venue was a Chinese restaurant in Dundee!!

Would I be right Foyles that in one episode he got a greyhound and took it to a council flat and spent money on feeding the dog better than his girlfriend, seemed to have been done again in Minder later?

Btw I met Ian Cuthbertson a fair few times and once before he hosted a Hogmany show for some TV company in Edinburgh, did not speak like Rab C tbh!!

Actually, thinking back mac, did he have what we could call a cultured Kelvinside accent in the series and they tried to rough it u a bit?

I remember he was Charles Endel Esquire in the series intro?
Report themightymac March 28, 2024 6:51 PM GMT
In the series Charlie Endlell tried to speak posh and move in upper circles despite making his money from Soho strip clubs and porn shops, lol. Cultured Kelvinside accent would describe the character well CagliariG indeed.
Budgie was the failed small time crook. Good show it was at the time.
Report Ramruma March 28, 2024 6:56 PM GMT
Budgie was a strange character by today's standards, almost an antihero. Good looking and charismatic but dishonest, submissive and with the IQ of a pencil sharpener, iirc. 1970s Soho was on point.
Report CagliariG March 28, 2024 7:00 PM GMT
He would have fitted well to the 24/7 brigade here then ramruna? They would be seething tbf as few would reach the exacting standards outside of dishonesty?

Anyone remember Man In A Suitcase
Report Ramruma March 29, 2024 6:40 AM GMT
Rewatching Hazell some time ago reminded me times were different back then, at least for actors. Hazell could handle himself; he was quite a hard man when necessary. Until in one scene he took his shirt off to reveal no muscle tone whatsoever and very little muscle. Nowadays we hear about how long stars spend in the gym, about Daniel Craig adding three inches of muscle to play Bond and so on. Not back then.

Also, that barnet!

Loved Budgie.

First saw it when it was repeated on Channel 4 back around 1985/86.

My mum and dad were big fans of Iain Cuthbertson, having watched the series when it first aired in the early 70s.

I especially enjoyed the episodes in which Margaret Nolan ( aka Vicki Kennedy ) appeared. God, she was gorgeous... . Love
