Riding to orders?

Is schooling in Public allowed now. ?

No doubt the arch weasel in the studio will be trying desperately to find any excuse other than jockey...
By:
very bad ride
By:
What gets me is R. Hughes was a top class jockey and you would think he can spot a mediocre jockey a mile away
By:
The horse didn`t exactly help him. Green turning into the straight and all over the place. But trying to be too clever is not a great idea. Make things simple when you are on the best horse and keep things straight forward.
By:
And thats why it is virtually impossible to win long term betting horses. Best horse in the race by a mile and they still get beat due to human error. I`m sure if he rode it in the same race 100 times he would win 99 times despite being green.
By:
Touble is they get bulled up by the oncourse media when they ride a winner and then think they are the next dettori.
By:
Charbar67....When R.Hughes started training he said he was going to use Shane Kelly plenty ...something along the lines of him being a good jockey
That says plenty about his opinion on jockeys. Doesn't get many rides off him nowadays |
By:
looked like a julian wilson/ramseden i dont own horses for others to get the best prices, ride

Hughsie rode the majority of his horses, at least for the first 2/3rds of his career, in that "get'em settled out the back , come with a late run" style. Unsurprising he instructs his jockeys to ride like that frequently.
By:
If I backed that I'd take solace in the fact that Hughes has probably done his b****.
By:
When they know one is well in they have half an eye on the next race. A bit of cakeism can be expensive.
By:
I did notice that Rooke was preferred to Marsh on the previous winner although Marsh had ridden it first time out.
By:
just shows you such horses at the right price will make you money long term...but when you're left with 1.7/1.8 brave lays probably won't cost too much.
By:
betting sed wasnt there to loose.
By:
very true. He was very green at newmarket. could have been a very different story today..but wasn't.
By:
Think he thought he was on Arazi.....very poor judgement
or very good depending on what their aim was b4 race![]() |
By:
inexperienced horses....idiots on here are clueless... think Secretariat and Sea the Stars were non tryers first run ? ( they got well beat )
By:
Sorry....didnt realise it was the horses 1st run....that explains it, ta

By:
they often still are green after 2 or 3 ydc
By:
Charming Howard.....not sure if you have any experience riding racehorses but I have 15 years experience, yes the horse was still a bit green but surely you can see the horse was put in an uncompromising position by the rider hence the result.....no need to get personal Howard....everyone can have opinions but you shouldnt be disrespectful just cause the opinions dont agree with yours

fair enough but you're getting a bit McCoy like there. Have been on a horse and very frightened ..never again. Rico said it all. Maybe a superlative jock would have won on it but punters knew who was riding. Non trier is BS imo.
By:
that was to Rico's earlier post

Was it really that bad of a ride? With 2 confirmed front runners in the field a decent pace looked likely but it didn't really metallise. Then when FM asked for an effort the horse looked to lug in up the straight and still looked green. Looking as his physique, he'd certainly appreciate a much more galloping track. Connections should be able to find an equally weak race at Bath/Nottingham.
By:
... only sitting 10 lengths of the pace and wide as a bus, worse ride i have seen for a while and NO not pocket talking.
By:
You’ll see a lot of this during the season……
Seldom notice if you haven’t played….. |
By:
Didn't play in the race but I watch pretty much every Flat race and my own race reading tells me the horse was still green.
By:
your opinion doesn't count WP you're not a workrider

By:
race defo wasnt run to suit..best horse in race though.
By:
Probably not, Howard. But I can see how those who backed it must be annoyed, because he's clearly the best horse in the race and will be rated much higher than the rest of that field come the end of the season. But the race just didn't pan out for it today.
By:
that's right but they jump to the non trier angle rather quick. did myself 40 years ago but surely there's nobody under 50 on this forum

By:
If the horse had responded to the jockeys urgings after the bend it would have won but the horse didn't. Jockey did nowt wrong.
By:
lol
By:
The time of the race is the jockey's defence, it's a slow time, comparatively the worst on the card, and if he's been instructed to hold the horse up, then he's been up against it based on how the race has panned out.
To make matters worse, he met with a bit of trouble at the top of the straight and then has to get a sizable sort reorganised. Certainly nothing dodgy about it imo. |
By:
Ran green from 2f pole to the 1f pole. That's what lost it the race. If it hadn't of ran green it wins. Jockey exonerated.
By:
so in other words the jocks/trainers plan was to let an odds on fav be hostage to fortune to every other jocks /trainers plans in the race, seems sensible tactics, NOT

What about So Chic in the last on the track it normally puts in a good shift…..
