Perhaps he thinks they'll decide to run and doesn't see their concern as detrimental to the horse's chances, just like anyone who tipped up Lark in the morning despite connections being concerned about the ground and nearly pulling it.
I don't think to compare a Grand National 2 x Ultima winner with a horse they have spent a season working the dodge with is very fair. I'd believe Russell over O'Brien any day of the week.
