Watched him on Thursday I’m sure he said he was going full wack full bank job on brighter days ahead but miss heard him and could not find the horse the next day Friday looked at the last race and said to myself there’s that horse Johnny has gone full load on better days ahead had a nice few quid on him watched him win at 5/1 and thanked Johnny no wonder he’s a pro I thought to myself then realised his selection got turned over the day before at 5/6

Very knowledable and profitable punter for years , not been able to get on is his biggest problem these days . He wears his heart on his sleeve and can be very witty, i'm a big fan of his views and have made a few quid out of his thoughts over the past few years .

Anyone entitled to their opinion but him saying Gallop lay of the week took some working out
By:
he gets his share of winners and losers ,he does admit he finds it hard to find anything over 10/1 which obviously it is gonna be harder ,but you have to look in the right places and have the right attitude , i found to my cost over the years of once you get into a mindset of "shorter the price better the chance " it can get harder to look beyond tha scenario.

FOYLESWAR: not heard much of the couch lately hows he doing ? was entertaining on those previews imo.
Mark Winstanley (with an ancient byline photo) wrote for the Daily Star's Cheltenham pullout. His festival yankee was Embassy Gardens, Gaoth Chuil, Theatre Man, and Quai de Bourbon, none of which won. He also tipped Awaal in the Lincoln. |

The post-Cheltenham wrap issue of Upping the Ante should be out later today which should tell us how Johnny Dineen (see, we are back on topic) did.
By:
thanks ramruma glad to hear the couch is still about ,more about the comedy value than his tipping prowess but some of those cheltenham previews could do with him to liven em up imo.

Ribero another scumbag to join the DG scumbag you English are the pits of the earth but only those 2 mentioned here
By:
Yes bentring sorry about that,I thought DG was being light hearted as he often is and after I'd agreed with him I saw the error of my ways,I can laugh at myself too so apologies.

No worries pal I said after DRF the only accents I heard we're English and long may it continue they really enjoyed themselves

Johnny reckoned he won about a bag of crisps. Which in punters terms is done a few quid in. Stellar Story his biggest winner @ around 45.0 yet still ended up losing that day. Good job hes got the preview nights/upping the ante to the bills.
By:
reckon where johnny went wrong and where a lot of other punters go wrong me included ,is staking ,probable he had plenty on the shorties which is fine if they win ,but went smaller on the bigger priced pokes ie stellar story in the theory that 33/1 means its only got an outside chance and dosent justify a similar stake to a much shorter priced pick. after 50 years punting i still have not got the staking right ie to much on the losers not enough on the winners.
By:
It's one of the great anomalies: that many punters can work out a way of betting which delivers a long-term profit to level stakes, then they go and have a monkey on the odds-on shots, but only a score on the 33/1 winner which actually delivers that level stakes profit.
The usual argument is along the lines of "what's the point of backing even money shots if you're only going to have a score on them, eh?" To which the reply is "now you're getting somewhere; think about it: what's the point of backing even money shots - that's the question you've finally stumbled on." |
By:
elliot wasnt even sending the horse over but another entry got injured at the weekend before chelt so elliott just put stellar story on wagon to replace intended runner

This year seems even worse. Try finding a preview without this guy? Unreal. I get why people like his humour and style but his knowledge and advice is really poor. He essentially presents in a joking way why to lump on a favourite at 4/7. God help you if thats the content you aspire to. In fact there is no pundit anywhere who is explaining how to find value and exactly when and why to oppose the hype to get long term success. Its just dumbed down content for the masses like everything else these days. There is such a huge space in the racing pundit mkt for better content.
By:
Listened for the first time , he was amusing and did say that Majborough was good value at 4/7 as he reckoned 4/11 (anywhere but Cheltenham ) but its all just bookies fodder . I cant talk as backed at 100 and laid at 20 Cromwell's mare but only in buttons .

He's entertaining that's for sure. But I have to question some of his opinions. He thinks CH isn't as good as he was and they never come back. Er? He won a Christmas hurdle after a year off and only 80% fit and he could have won at Cheltenham by 20L+ LTO if allowed to. He's already back! Also says he won't lay CH but would have if Lossiemouth was still in the race? Er? She had zero chance of winning the Champion Hurdle. She couldn't even get near a ring rusty CH in Christmas Hurdle and she'd be coming into the race off the back of a heavy fall.
My opinion? The year off might have actually helped CH and I think he's better then he was (opinion based not figures) I think you'll see something very special at Cheltenham tomorrow |
By:
Mullins just said on racinguk interview live that Lossiemouths work was not as good as State Man last week and they felt she would at best be playing for places in CH.
By:
Lots of his tips are awful, but at least he isn't too bothered about actually saying something, unlike 99% of the media. I like that he doesn't take himself too seriously, and I think that makes him hard not to like.
By:
Punters like him because genuine and he's been in the game for a long time and he's obviously made it pay. It's hard not to like/respect a guy like him. He's completely wrong about CH though. If I were a short priced backer I'd be licking my chops about him. lol But like he says, it's all about opinions I suppose

By:
Oh no for JD
By:
Not a good race for him. An adequate round of jumping would have been enough.....
By:
if Johnny rode it himself he would have won on it ffs, that was a pathetic effort from Walsh...
Jody McGarvey is JP"s number 4-5 pick jockey and he would have given Maj a better spin |
By:
Think mullins and Johnny will be seething with that ride, never gave horse any confidence and his jumping just fell apart
By:
he,s supposed to be a pro punter one might think the 4 fences he clattered at leopardstowm might have marked his guard, clattered 9 fences in 2 races
By:
Novice Chaser at 1/2 in festival race is his NAP. Oh dear…
