Impossible to have sh** odds seaside as they're 100% books , it's called personal opinion.
If backing with bookmakers the over rounds will be the same as every other day so nothing different.
As for sh** racing that's a matter of opinion and each to their own , the lower grade the better for me.
Good luck today

It's the price you pay for being "on the road to Cheltenham" - the entire National Hunt season in now geared toward 4 days in March.
I love those four days in March as much as the next man - but the rest of the season whilst "on that road" is now badly lacking in significant impact.

What Hayden said - with near 100% books, unless by some fluke every horse in every race is exactly correctly priced, there's always value on at least a couple of runners as back or lays?

Could this be the real reason for the billion pound fall in the levy? As per Mr Gosden quoted in a red top yesterday.
Forget all this checking on accounts etc, they are selling a s**t product which is reflected in the Levys returns to racing.
Whilst all the "big time players" on here poo poo any valid criticism, the reality is you have nothing without the recreational punter.
It's there for all to see recreational punters are not betting or betting less and less the numbers don't lie.

Recreational / Flutterers don't give a toss whether it's a Grade 1 or a Seller , it may as well be virtual racing.
They just want a quick result and onto the next race

Nothing to do with the quality trevor it's a generational thing , for every punter that's toast there's nobody to replace him.
The sport has become boring to the new generation who prefer something a bit more exiting and a lot quicker fix than watching horses running around in circles.
Of course Cheltenham will be packed and everything will look rosy for a while but it'll be a long term struggle for many years to come.
Don't suppose AC will help either

Apologies Hayden not replying sooner had to pop out unexpectedly yesterday.
So, you agree, you say "the sport has become boring" the OP and I say something a little stronger, fundamentally the same thing. Racing is producing an inferior product to induce people to bet on.
It's too simplistic to infer that punters are mugs and will bet on anything, the numbers from the AC issues show that 90%+ of ACs lose on average a few hundred pounds a year and are managed in a responsible way.
It has to be about the quality as the OP says keep your money in your pocket and that is what 100's of thousands of punters are doing as reflected in the Levy returns year on year.

I've gradually found that myself too sparrow - I've often found myself putting on a football bet, recording a match, then fast forwarding through it when watching instead - can't be bothered watching every stupid pass, foul, diving around with pretend injuries etc etc....

Racing is like crack cocaine in comparison - new action every few minutes and a quick result churned out, move on to next...
If it's lack of boredom that is the key, then surely racing should fit that bill.

but... football has a huge pool of people who are already genuinely fanatical about the sport (don't ask me why, I am not one) who can easily be persuaded to add betting to that already-interest.
Almost nobody gets into racing as a sport without coming through gambling - certainly for my generation and older it was about the only thing available in the betting shop.

Line up 8 class 1 horses e.g over a mile with the same colours and do the same with class six with no commentary or names, just numbered 1-8 and no form except figures almost guaranteed a room full of regular casual punters will bet identically on both races and based on form figures next to the number.
The quality is a miniscule issue for the majority as long as it is competitive and it is the Grade ones and upper echelon which impacts betting turnover not the low grade handicaps etc, particularly where ew betting is available. Hence why most books now give extra places on 6 and 7 runner races.

I can't agree with the last bit Trev not because i think you're necessarily wrong but for the fact i do something virtually the opposite , like never betting on festivals anywhere ( too many triers ) and last festival bet was a bad e/way double against Black Caviar % Frankel in 2010 , never bet under double digits on horses and only really interested betting in low grade races ( the lower the better )
So basically this proves it's each to their own but the chances of anyone copying any of my strategies is a million.
Still think the " bet on anything " is generally true regarding quality and the vast majority of punters first thought looking at the Champion Hurdle on the day will be to contemplate what sort of bet they can have rather than any absentees.
The difference in the industry compared to say the eighties is unreal in so many ways and confirmed by posters of a certain age referring to then as the good old days with nostalgic stories from both races and betting tales , couldn't disagree with any of it but as those days will never return punters need either to adjust to modern times or walk away , you can blame slots and such but horse racing simply is no longer as popular and as stated the likes of us are unlikely to be replaced in anywhere near sufficient numbers whatever action anyone takes.
It's all about opinions mate , good luck

Reckon you're one of the luckiest gamblers alive sparrow recognizing that fact , my personal view categorizes soccer with slots in betting terms with an equally long term punting disaster ahead , still think the majority of punters don't even realize that betting on evening soccer is the only real way of chasing racing losses from the afternoon , and they all love a multi.
Bookmakers sure love slots and soccer punters.

Yes, betting on single football matches is not easy and not profitable over time. For a long time I used to back a top team on the exchange when it went one down, sadly the prices are much more restrictive nowadays. Backing in league tournaments is ok; just need plenty of patience and a good grasp of the fixture lists.
I do agree with seaside, the low field sizes in a lot races make the price very unappealing. Cheltenham this year many of the G1 races have terribly short prices, its hard to know what to do i.e. doubles/trebles or try and oppose some of them.

I've done a double on Pam Sly's at Hunts plus an ew single on Xcitations at 11's. Think they could both run well - it's her local track. See you all in the poor house.
