didn't exactly have the kitchen sink thrown at it...

not the first time i've noted an interesting ride for an Emma Lavelle horse tbh.

i'm sure we will be informed it's a tricky type or something like that.

Dropped out last behind a load of trees and never put in the race.

Orders were drop out and finish the race off or some old rubbish like that, Sir

Race 3 - 3:15pm
THE BLACKDOWN MOTOR COMPANY NOVICES' HURDLE RACE (CLASS 4) (GBB RACE)

TIGGER (IRE) unseated James Bowen leaving the parade ring. Having been checked by the Doctor, Bowen was deemed fit to race.

Following the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that BARLEY GIN (IRE), which was pulled up, lost its left-hind shoe.

An enquiry was held into the running and riding of MISTRAL MILLY (IRE), ridden by Joe Anderson and trained by Emma Lavelle, which was ridden detached from the remainder of the field from the start, before getting into contention towards the end of the back straight, where after the mare made steady progress up the home straight under tender handling to finish third of eight runners, beaten by 1 length and 8 ½ lengths. The rider and the representative of the trainer were interviewed and shown recordings of the race and the Veterinary Officer examined the mare post-race and had nothing to report. The rider stated drop MISTRAL MILLY (IRE) out as she has a tendency of racing keenly. He reported that the mare had jumped well but had taken a strong hold of the bridle every time he made ground towards those racing at the rear of the field, a fact that he reported at scales. He stated that on leaving the back straight he felt that although the mare was travelling well, he felt that he was not sat on much due to her racing manners on the Soft, Heavy in places going. Anderson continued that it was therefore his intention to ask for an effort on turning in, but on doing so he reported that MISTRAL MILLY (IRE) had begun to hang right handed, again a fact he reported at scales, to a degree that compromised his riding effort. Thereafter MISTRAL MILLY (IRE) had continued up the straight at the one pace, making no inroads on the two horses in front. The trainer’s representative confirmed the instructions and reiterated Anderson’s comments about the mare’s racing manners which in his opinion only served to draw attention to her performance. Both rider and trainer’s representative were of the view that if MISTRAL MILLY (IRE) had been given a more vigorous ride throughout, then she would have finished further back than the third place which she obtained. Their explanations were noted.
