Shocker of a ride Quinlan , head bigger than his knowledge of his riding ability 
I was watching Ruby Walsh talking about Vatour and stepping it up in trip and then being beaten in KG. He was asked should he have ridden him differently to try to conserve a bit. He said they either stay or they dont, best to be in the lead and kick on when you are on best horse and best jumper. Thats why people like Quinlan are so clueless. I have seen Ruby give bad rides obviously but he never had the stupidity to ride something like Quinlan then. What does he hope to achieve by keep taking a pull and not trying to put race to bed?
The only reason I can think of is he was trying to win by not too far to keep any rise in the handicap to a minimum.
