sounds sensible.  presume that's £2 a day ??
Report hulk23 February 21, 2024 9:03 PM GMT
inline with the £3 a day you're allowed to lose on here
Report impossible123 February 21, 2024 9:08 PM GMT
Just take the machines off the high street bookies, period. Then hopefully the bookies will resume being bookies again and not casinos.
Report hulk23 February 21, 2024 9:15 PM GMT
boy that works in the bookie has already said on another fred if he didn't have the machines he'd be looking for another job.
Report the dealer February 21, 2024 9:31 PM GMT
Hopefully that's true but would prefer a blanket £2 max stake.

It's not all about the slots, last weeks profit ssbts £7k, OTC £6.2k fobts £1.6k

what's £5 ??

£5 a spin on a Digital slot machine ??

some people are limited to £100 a month on here.  £3 a day.  but you can walk into a bookie and play a Digital slot machine at £5 a spin ??

exactly how fkng absurd is this getting ??
Report BoosterRooster February 21, 2024 10:08 PM GMT
Very rare people go above £2 per spin anyway, and that’s enough to lose a lot of money still.

Plenty of options for anyone who wants to stake higher anyway. Offshore casinos already proving more popular because of the slower spins etc. already introduced, this will just accelerate that further.
Report the dealer February 21, 2024 10:09 PM GMT
Slots in shops are set at £2 max, so I'm assuming it's on line slots to a max £5 spin. Which actually is a result because at the moment it's limitless.
Report ronnie rails February 21, 2024 10:10 PM GMT
You can still do plenty at 2 quid a spin.

Report the dealer February 21, 2024 10:11 PM GMT
Correct, they can still lose lots at £2 but at least it's a start with some sort of action against the limitless online arcades

it's so fkng ridiculous that there has to be more to it.  20 spins - what's that about 2 or 3 minutes - and you've lost what someone is restricted to on here in a whole month ??

£2 and £5 stakes are too big. You can lose hundreds in a few minutes.

Just take the fobt machines away from all bookies premises. Any compulsive fobt player can go to an arcade or casino to play these machines. When there is a will, there is a way. QED.

Greg £2 per spin is a HUGE stake on slots to most customers, I would expect. Casinos/bookies not bothered with implementation, I can assure you.

Slots provide the lowest betting limit, with many accepting bets of just 1p per payline. Yet you can also wager on a much higher scale, with a maximum of £3000 per spin also available in certain games.

some bookies give you free spins on certain games and once those free spins are finished and you click the real money button it will cost you £2.50 per spin/if you dont reduce it down
and you can spin a few times before realising it.
those should be reported and automatically reduced to minimum after dree spins and yes i got caught out but dont bother with them now.

betting on racing being dragged through the mire by these things.

someone does £20k on the slots at £10 a spin, all of a sudden someone wants a £5 placepot on has to produce all sorts of information.

@the dealer

I take the free spins on the bookie sites I am on - not on here as I self-excluded from casino/slots years ago - mainly to keep them thinking I am a multi-product customer, but the free 50p wins don't hurt.

What I don't get is how these things are addictive, they are the most boring things on earth.  The pub fruit machines of my youth were fun - holds, nudges, special features - but all these things do is spin, highlight a seemingly random selection of symbols and you either win or not.  And then again.  One might as well flip coins at 1.90 for eternity.
Report mitolo February 22, 2024 6:10 PM GMT
they should have a minimum of £100. that would end them, or at least their proliferation

I read that they are played by drug dealers to "clean" their money.
Report hulk23 February 22, 2024 6:24 PM GMT
What I don't get is how these things are addictive

The particular addictiveness of modern slots has to do with the solitary, continuous, rapid wagering they enable. It is possible to complete a game every three to four seconds, with no delay between one game and the next. Some machine gamblers become so caught up in the rhythm of play that it dampens their awareness of space, time and monetary value.

Research has found that these devices, which create three-fourths of casino revenue, addict people more quickly than other types of gambling.
“They don’t talk about competition or excitement,” says Robert Hunter, the clinical director of the Problem Gambling Center in Las Vegas. “They talk about climbing into the screen and getting lost.”

They are after “time on device,” to use the gambling industry’s term for a mode of machine gambling that is less about risk and excitement than about maintaining a hypnotic flow of action – a mode that is especially profitable for casinos.
Report hulk23 February 22, 2024 6:28 PM GMT
these things are specifically designed - by boffins - to get you addicted.

gambling on them shouldn't be bundled up people having a recreational bet on horseracing.  totally different, that's the mistake they are (knowingly) making.

you should be subject to an AC if you want to get involved with them.
Report screaming from beneaththewaves February 22, 2024 6:37 PM GMT
Have you lot learnt nothing from what happened when they got their way on FOBTs? You cheered them on, and what happened? They came straight for the rest of us.

Now that they've got their way on this, their next step will be to limit bets on everything else to £5.

There is simply no difference between a bet on a horse race and a bet on slot machine to these people. Either way the punter is in danger of losing, and must therefore be limited for his own protection.
Report hulk23 February 22, 2024 6:42 PM GMT

exactly.  but there is all the evidence they need to show one is much more addictive than the other.  as i have pointed out, one is designed to get you addicted.  that's its purpose, to get you addicted and to ruin your life.  they are lumping that in with having a recreational punt on a horse race which people have been doing for decades without issue.
Report screaming from beneaththewaves February 22, 2024 6:45 PM GMT
Please don't take this the wrong way, hulk, but your opinion is irrelevant to these people. You are a man who bets, therefore your explanation is, by definition, worthless to them. To them it's the ravings of a punter trying to rationalise his addiction.

I guess you mean the in shop fobts, TTT? Imo a drug dealer sticking a grand in a machine and withdrawing roughly the same amount, isn’t anywhere near ‘cleaned’ money, especially if the staff are emptying it to pay him back with his own money! I suppose getting the ticket paid directly into their bank would be a better way if so.

it wasnt fine. the margins were too big but notfair helped to change that. wed never have got 1st ptp without notfair or some of the special offers or guarantees

the decline in notfair has been mirrored by the retreat from value of the bookmakers as they dont have to try so hard any more

Report s.kenbo February 22, 2024 7:48 PM GMT
I think it’s a myth too. Dealers making enough money for the need to launder it wouldn’t be doing it in a fobt. Any low end dealer wouldn’t need to do it, or give a t0ss about doing it.
