What's really going on with these so called affordability checks, it's beyond a joke and their has to be some other ulterior motive going down here, im no conspiracy theorist but.......

I've been on betfair for over 23 years, I was in my early 30's when I joined im now nearly 56, been happily playing on here minding my own business then out of the blue I get an email saying that they have given me a  deposit budget of £100 per month, I thought it was a joke, if I want to increase it I need to send all sorts of personal financial information.

I for one will not be giving them this information, and my reason is what I do with my hard earned  money is none of their business, i've got a decent disposable income and how I choose to spend it it my decision.

Thankfully I have many other interests so the money I would have spent here can be diverted elsewhere for my pleasure, I shop a lot in fortnum & mason and Harrods, I enjoy Kerridge's fish & chips.

Is this a wider issue of the stupid county, should I expect to be limited to a £100 per month the next I visit my favourite department stores.

Ydna.....why u think they targeted u

No idea, im not a prolific winner or loser bets are £200 down to about £50, like most reasonable punters i have good weeks and bad weeks, the £100 p/m makes no sense, they have 23 years of my history on here.

Only one strange thing did happen, like most the sportsbook on here you are reduced to pennies, but beginning of last week i wanted a ant post Cheltenham acca, it paid the most on their sportsbook so i did a check just to see how many pennies they would lay and to my amazement max bet was £350, i nearly fell off my chair, so i had £100 of it,.

And now what a surprise, i've just checked max bets on a few random races and football and it looks like i've now got an unrestricted sportsbook account,  example odds on jolly 7 o'clock my max bet £2,500, football Southampton to win tonight £3,500.

What do you make of that, clearly impossible to bet those sums because i have a limit of £100 p/m

Incidentally i had a safer gambling email for dak just after charismas, a £1.000 p/m deposit limit until i give them a sperm sample

Report elise February 16, 2024 5:14 PM GMT
the 100 pm is normally temporary until you provide proof of income, if they've asked and you've not provided or tried to contact you and you didn't respond they apply it until you give info, then they agree a new figure and you're on that limit per month going forward

Report elise February 16, 2024 5:49 PM GMT
if you make your living on here then unless you provide some info they are highly likely to stick a deposit limit on your account, just on that they won't include any money you make from gambling so winners whether in running / arbers / traders whatever are going to need other details to allow them to keep a reasonable agreed deposit limit, what they ask for is intrusive but there's no option

if you play for fun / as a hobby and you don't wish to provide you don't need to

bookmakers can't see it and they are being asked to prove they've checked people that are losing money, you'd have to give permission for them to see it and they don't ask for it if they could see credit ratings it might help but they'd still have to show that over a certain level they checked

I still can’t see how they can square the prospect of a person paying PC regularly and them have to ask about your financials to see if you are ‘vulnerable’ enough to deposit.

It didn’t bother then taking half your profit, and that is a no betting transaction, they take it because they think you do too well, it’s totally artificial.

So I’d like to hear if any PC payers are getting asked for this sort of info?

On a side issue, I read a while back changing details on an account can trigger a request.
Well my account is golden, I’m not going into it but if I get a request then nobody is safe.
I havnt had one, but my bank card runs out end of this month and I’m wondering whether updating might cause an issue?

Has anyone refused to add new details and just start taking money out through PayPal?

Different thread but same old song being sung by many, blame Bookmakers etc etc etc when in fact all BF are doing is simple housekeeping by verifying accounts and imposing a temporary limit whilst the admin is done. They may not be doing a very efficient job of it but it is far from affordability checks in accordance with GC proposals.

Blaming the Bookies is boring and stupid, suggesting they want to have their businesses dismantled and restricted makes as much sense as Undertakers  voting to ban pandemics or turkeys voting for Christmas to be twice a year!!!

think they go round and pick up regularly, i've been picked up twice since this came into play, tbf they've been good about it, strangely they didnt look at lifetime earnings before calling they just call people flagged i think, they initially are only interested in your deposit level compared to what they deem reasonable v earnings (no gambling)

Elise- if you don't mind me asking what's your limit? No worries if you don't want to say on AF. Agree net is to big but think they just covering everyone, imagine if you checked 90% of customers and the other 10% cost you 50 million in fines, just far easier for them to do everyone. They should put notes though when they've been checked and it would save alot of hours ringing customers up after a bad run.

Nothing to do with the bookies in that sense. I'll post a pic on here, sorry it's quite small but a series of bets under £10 as that is all I was limited to. Then I got this message!

Following a recent in-depth review by our trading team we regret to inform you that your account requires tighter restrictions in the future. This means your account will remain active, however the following limitations will be applied:
You will no longer be eligible for any free bets or cash credits offered as part of any promotional offer from Sky Bet.
Please note your eligibility to promotional offers will be removed on Monday 05th February.
