Died at the weekend aged 27. What a smashing horse he was and what a golden era for the hurdling division with him, Brave Inca, Harchibald, Macs Joy and Rooster Booster

It really was a great era. A fantastic horse.
Report madhatter February 5, 2024 2:02 PM GMT
A great two or three years of top quality hurdling, second only to the Monksfield/Night Nurse/Sea Pigeon era

Sad to hear Hardy Eustace pass passed away, was a vey genuine, gutsy and talented horse.
Report jimnast February 5, 2024 2:20 PM GMT
The most amazing race I’ve ever seen elise

Hardy was my all time favourite national hunt horse not only did he win 2 champion hurdles he won a very strong sun alliance hurdle in the days these races were hard to win.

Tragically the rider that day was killed at kilbeggan a few months later.

Last year I gave hardy a pat down the neck at the national stud I’m glad I got to see him.

RIP old boy there were none tougher Sad
Report geoff m February 5, 2024 2:25 PM GMT
RIP Hardy .One of the most fluent jumpers of a hurdle ive ever seen and as tough as old boots.
Report FATTIEWHITEYSLOVEADRINK February 5, 2024 2:26 PM GMT
Hated him as I was brave inca fan
But what a horse and time that was n/h
Report elise February 5, 2024 2:29 PM GMT
it was an amazing moment jim, i was stood on guinness and as they came past my mate was waving a handful of harchibald vouchers ... he never got over it
Report sparrow February 5, 2024 2:45 PM GMT

I was sat in the seats on level 3 elise I couldn’t believe he was still in front at the line poor harchibald having to try and out battle both hardy and brave Inca

Totally agree madhatter second only to the era you mentioned
Report sparrow February 5, 2024 2:59 PM GMT
It still hurts and I even remember where I was being sat on my bus at a terminus and close to tears Grin
Report elise February 5, 2024 3:03 PM GMT
sry sparrow, but those are the memories that stay with us, always a few what ifs

Essex,al eile,back in front .bar rooster booster,English.

These hurdlers where known  as the magnificent seven, these were the seedlings of the Irish domination now.

If you want to know what it was like before this,go to any Irish city centre, and that big pile of pigeon **** in the main square,is burying a statue of danoli.their lone winner in early 80s
Report wondersobright February 5, 2024 3:42 PM GMT
defo the best era of 2m hurdlers since the turn of the century
Report jimnast February 5, 2024 3:49 PM GMT
Both mucklemeg and time for a run won the day danoli won the sun alliance hurdle
Report comingupthehill February 5, 2024 3:55 PM GMT
I presume you’re right,I’m sure though they only had 1 winner one year, and maybe no winners the year before, might have wrong horse.could of been the other world hurdle winner, that should of been disqualified, but kept the race.
Report jimnast February 5, 2024 3:58 PM GMT
Your thinking of galmoy
Report jimnast February 5, 2024 3:59 PM GMT
The one that should have been thrown out was crimson embers
Report comingupthehill February 5, 2024 4:01 PM GMT
Yeah galmoy.

Think danoli was best remembered cos 7/4 fav. So massive popular winner.
Report jimnast February 5, 2024 4:05 PM GMT
Yes plus the trainer

Cornelius lycet did something on the wireless when he retired from the bbc a top 10 count down to his favourite Cheltenham memories I was quite refreshing he chose danoli rather than gold cup or champion hurdle winners
Report comingupthehill February 5, 2024 4:12 PM GMT
I m probably wrong, but in the back of my brain, didn’t it win the Irish sports personality of the year.

Was a very popular horse in Ireland, hence why I mixed up the 1 winner, still talked about today galmoy/danoli.
Report jimnast February 5, 2024 4:14 PM GMT
Not sure about that comingupthehill I do seem to think Brian odriscoll pipping a horse for Irish spoty
Report comingupthehill February 5, 2024 4:19 PM GMT

Report jimnast February 5, 2024 4:36 PM GMT
His next race after winning the sun alliance was in the aintree hurdle where he had the champion hurdler flakey dove a long way behind some effort from a novice
Report jimnast February 5, 2024 4:37 PM GMT
Also thrashed Doran’s pride in the hattans grace.
Report jimnast February 5, 2024 4:40 PM GMT

i was trying to rem the king horse but i can't get it, too long back, i started going to ire maybe 2002/03 ish for the big meetings, my fav was the leops sunday ladbroke/pierce day when it was just the pne day, used to do navan on the saturday
Report jimnast February 5, 2024 5:23 PM GMT
Mulligan was the king horse

Navan is a superb racecourse with now also has a very good 2 day fixture clashes with the November meeting at Cheltenham

The old Ladbroke formally the sweeps hurdle I think was always a great spectacle

Report elise February 5, 2024 5:27 PM GMT
there was like a funny little bar in what felt like the rafters of the main stand, was a bit like a re enactment of the place anne frank was hiding

Report elise February 5, 2024 5:34 PM GMT
