As ever, an excellent column from Peter Hitchens today
Wars mean death and wounds. They mean shortages, rationing, electricity blackouts, travel restrictions, busybodies interfering in every bit of life, and with much more power. Not to mention danger – missiles have astonishing ranges these days. What exactly would this one be for? And on Ukraine... Ukraine is, in fact, a corrupt and ill-governed state, riven with incompetence and waste, with little political freedom, weak media and no real opposition. In this, it is very like Russia, except that Russia has oil and gas. It has other faults I won’t dwell on here. And the war which (in my view) the USA provoked in this region has been a disaster for the Ukrainian people. This is brought home in a dispatch this weekend in the Left-wing and pro-war New Statesman. The distinguished Ukrainian novelist Andrey Kurkov has given a clearer and more truthful picture of the state of the country he plainly loves than I have seen from any Western reporter. Mr Kurkov is a Ukrainian patriot, loyal to his nation. And this causes him to be honest. Among many other striking things, he notes ‘around 700,000 Ukrainians liable for military service have crossed the border since the war began on February 24, 2022. This is more than the number of Ukrainian soldiers at the front. These male refugees are not coming home any time soon.’ https://www.dailymail.co.uk/debate/article-13013261/PETER-HITCHENS-death-blackouts-brainless-march-war.html |

"The war which bankrupt Britain spends so much effort on keeping going has killed, maimed and disfigured unknown tens of thousands of young Ukrainian men (casualty figures are an official secret), devastated cities, and wrecked the Ukrainian economy.
I have never known what British interest this serves, and – perhaps even more important – I cannot see how Ukraine has benefited from it either. Can nothing end this brainless march towards a new Great War?" |

Good column. But I predicted this outcome and posted why the USA and their corrupt adminstration were so keen on this War happening in the first place. Of course, plenty of those calling me names at the time have gone very quiet on this.

I'm sure all the UK migrants will be queuing up to fight for the country they couldn't wait to get to...

We won't be fighting on the ground unless it's against a tin pot outfit like the Taliban[how did that go?]
The real war will be fought in the air and could well be the next, and final war fought via GPS would take around 5 minutes for the Russians to wipe out our little rock. Good news is, is that Putin doesn't want a war of mutual destruction - why would he? |

Spewtin will be well gone by then….

Isn't it funny how much vitriol Trump received from all quarters, including from plenty of sausage jockeys on here when he was POTUS. Yet, the current corrupt, War mongering Adminstration have been given a bye by all the same people.

Our Government and the incoming one could feck up a cup of coffee. So don't expect any action to bring this pointless War to an end anytime soon. They will just keep parroting the same line "Whatever it takes" and they mean it. Of course, it won't be their children being sent off to War.

With our multiculturally diverse population, volunteers to fight for a country they already despise will be in extremely short supply. In terms of our nuclear deterrent we will never have a leader willing to push the button even if we are being blown to pieces. Absolutely ludicrous to be poking the bear at every opportunity when ouir armed services are at their lowest ever. I notice France, Italy, Spain and Germany tale a backseat and kleep away from many of the worlds issues while the USA/UK stick their noses in at the drop of a hat.

We cant stop a few boats crossing from France on a daily basis, what chance of fighting a war.

Apparently when the 'war with Russia is coming' narrative was being pushed out in Scandanavia, everyone was rushing out to stock up on bog rolls, candles and batteries.

Rushing out to stock up is the most pointless thing at this point
Everyone has the same idea and it's a case of look after myself fook the rest attitude, that worked from 1990 to now because we had the environment for it, not anymore, we need a team effort and at this point people seem to think get 2 months supplies and all is well... Amateurs! |
