Hibby, what is the new format exactly or what has changed pls ?
Been away from i/r many years here until recently and it's only still experimental at this stage knowing liquidity has dropped since I was here last... am I chasing unicorns ?
also can anyone tell me what a reasonable response (ms) time these days ?

Highly likely The Racing Partnership do not have a fiber into Newbury. Typically, they take 3 months to install, so don't expect this to get resolved any time soon

the Newbury LV is a different LV format to what we have been getting ATR wise for years tho...
i am hoping it makes it more reliable (and faster) but who knows tbh.

surely Betfair will keep us informed tho if that is the case..
then again maybe not tbh...

Drones, GPS via TPD, and RMG (RacingUK) tracks on BFL, all about 0.6s behind live. ATR tracks on BFL usually about 2s behind live.

Just turned on and seen the issues, I've just tweeted them as that's the best chance we'd have, don't know if anyone has already tweeted them, I expect Wes would have so probably uphill battle.

for them not to be monitoring it would be utterly ridiculous imv...
mind you nowt would surprise me tbh.

I wonder what Betfair use to manage the market? In the last at Newbury they suspended about 3 secs before the winner crossed the line on the BFL pictures. So they aren't using the same pictures we get. Do they have a faster 'clean' feed, or perhaps they use GPS?

If I was Betfair I would use GPS. You could automate it that way and remove human error and cost. Perhaps they are waiting for GPS data to become readily available from RMG tracks?

end of race suspend has been going up about half a furlong early for every race so far 'jamee'...
they must have someone at the track surely ?
either that or they have joined the drone brigade for ATR races ?

Could be. GPS is already up and running via TPD at Newbury so they could be using that.

when things go wrong on here, the first thing you should do is check elsewhere, what most do is just moan, that's my betfair for dummies post for today

Thinking a bit further, if they were using GPS or someone on track then you would expect the suspend to be much earlier.
Says to me either Betfair have a 'clean' stream that is a few seconds better than the one we're getting, or they know the stream is running behind and are guestimating it.

i think it was start, end, photo & stewards they used to call in
was chatting to one in the paddock at ffos and he forgot to tell them a stewards had opened, that was about 2008 ish i think, did think they did away with them a fair while back, wazza may know he was in the boxes pre drone and so would have seen them

They used have someone on track with a mobile phone Susan Jeffrey used do it at Lingfield and a few other Southern tracks prior to Covid.I don't know if she was replaced. She is on the Godolphin Flying start programme

HappyHibby • January 23, 2024 2:54 PM GMT that sounds a bit 'conspiracy theoryish' to me 'jamee'...
Nothing 'conspiracy' about clean streams. They're commonplace in the live sports industry, but became less relevant in the last few years as overall latency reduced.
The official streams we see have added production (on-screen graphics etc), which increases latency slightly to produce. Clean streams don't go through this process and so can be quicker. We don't know what part of the process is causing the latency problems with today's Newbury stream.
However, the more I think about it the more I suspect they're just manually guestimating the finish. 1/2 guestimating 3/1 GPS 5/1 clean stream 10/1 person on track

then borrow an id, u don't need to bet to view, or try another book, also check daq or other providers, when they are all fecked it's from the track, when only certain ones are fecked it's a diff issue, today it's not all

**** stream is about 3 secs ahead of Betfair which fits in with the timing Betfair are using to suspend. Therefore most likely Betfair have access to a lower latency stream for market management.

First day of GPS via TPD at Newbury today. Teething troubles for the first race, but working fine after that.

HappyHibby • January 23, 2024 4:43 PM GMT how much does that TPD thingy cost 'jamee' ?
Various options. You also need to be subscribing to Bet Mover, Bet Angel or Gruss. https://www.tpd.zone/subscribe/

HappyHibby • January 23, 2024 4:49 PM GMT roughly 'jamee'...
I use the 'standard' option which is £60 per month for 2 concurrent IP connections, 200ms refresh, and up to 450 races. The options are all in the link. Clickerty click! https://www.tpd.zone/subscribe/

swiftynifty • January 23, 2024 4:48 PM GMT jamee1, was liquidity terrible there today with the pic issues?
Not that I noticed while trading. But I didn't pay any attention to overall traded volumes.

swiftynifty • January 23, 2024 4:57 PM GMT it's not hard to set up Hibby, it offers plenty but nearly all of it only of real use with synced programs etc, imo.
100%. It's definitely not accurate enough to be thumping 1.01 on FPTP. Comes into its own though for automation and picking out the late runners.

You are in full control , tell it exactly what you want and it obeys to the letter.
The few issues you see or hear about with a BOT is down to either bad programming or a bug in the script , both human error.

Come on Hibby, if Mr Hunt can embrace technology so can you
I remember going into the race room they had at Hexham races, a few years back to meet Rico, inside it looked like something from an M15 control room. Pretty impressive to my untrained eye,
I'm with you though, far too complicated for me.

Unless you have a super brain and can process vast amounts of data(some dubious) within the < 2 secs advantage it may have over pics, or of course you integrate it with bots, I doubt it's of much use to the vast majority of players.

duffy • January 24, 2024 4:38 AM GMT So on the TBD stuff, are you using it whilst watching the race yourself and then using the data to help you decide what to do in the race?
I use TPD to help me make manual decisions and also to trigger trades automatically.

IMO, anything that does not involve pictures of the race would not be of any use to me, I would take the delay via LV over a process with live data but without pics.
Now I'm playing devil's advocate here so the questions are
Where in the data does it tell you about jockey body language, or where does it inform you that there is a horse boxed in and making a judgement that a gap will or won't appear, or that a horse has just lost ground but it did so because the jockey has taken a pull or that a horse is fighting the jockey but because the jockey is winning the horse is under restraint so the data doesn't recognize that although he's not going too quick he is still burning too much gas?

The EYES have it, the EYES have it. But can they beat supercomputers? The data can make people money, with obvious limits set to allow for above such situations that 'confuse' Mr Bot. They have killed the markets though.

duffy • January 24, 2024 4:13 PM GMT But are you watching the race, be it live or delayed alongside it?
Most of my business is still done by watching the stream, but aided by info from TPD data. I also have separate automations triggering independently in the background based solely on TPD.
You're absolutely correct that TPD misses important info such as you describe, but it provides data that you can't see, such as exact speed vs par for race, velocity fluctuation, stride frequency, cadence error. That's why a blended approach using both live stream and TPD is best IMO.

i wouldn't have a clue how to interpret some of the stuff 'jamee' mentioned above...
i know when i'm out of my depth and i know when i don't know enough about something to actually use it in a profitable way...
my eyes don't tell lies to my brain...
they might make a mistake occasionally but they don't lie...
once my eyes start sending crap signals to my brain it will be the sign that i'm a dead duck.
